The New Rochelle YMCA was established in 1899 and continues to serve as a premier non-profit organization in the community by delivering programs and services for all ages. The Board of Directors is seeking a CEO to continue building on its strong legacy of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Leadership for the YMCA is more than a job; it’s a passion!
The board believes its next CEO should be an experienced leader who has the background and qualities that will permit her or him to achieve excellence in the following roles:
- Improve Operating Performance with a Focus on Expanding Membership: Assess the current operation and develop a plan that will recapture, grow and retain membership as well as expand programs in service to the community. By expanding membership and programs, lead to strengthening overall fiscal performance in order to support a financially sustainable organization. Work with the board to refine, develop and fund an annual plan for achieving key goals and objectives.
- Build and Manage the Staff Team: Serve as a leader who is able to motivate and engage staff in a positive and productive manner. Lead by example and actively engage in staff supervision, development and performance leading to superior results in programs, member development/satisfaction and community engagement. Work cooperatively with volunteer board of directors to capitalize on expertise and seek to build board numbers and skill set. Maintain a culture of integrity, high ethical standards, and values.
- Establish and Implement a Strategic Plan and Be the Leader for that Vision: Lead the organization in an effort that rallies all the Y’s stakeholders around a new vision and a new strategic plan. Must be able to articulate a compelling vision for what the Y is and will become. Working with the volunteer board and staff, the CEO needs to create the vision and strategic plan that excites staff, board, members and the community about the difference the Y makes for people and the impact the Y can have in the community.
- Advocate the Vision of the YMCA: Should actively interact and communicate with YMCA members, donors, staff and volunteers and be seen as an active and integral member of the community. Serve as an ambassador for the mission, cause and vision for the YMCA within the community and be seen and respected as a leader, with the ability to develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, public and private, while always upholding the highest standards of the values of the YMCA’s heritage.
- Skilled in Leading Fundraising Efforts: Serve as the strategist in fundraising efforts by working with the board to establish and carry out a plan for how the organization will raise contributed dollars for operations and continued facility repairs as well as expanding services to the community. Must be able to position the Y as a charity of choice by instilling confidence, credibility, and trust in the Y with community leaders and donors.
- Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization.
- Fiscally sound business management approach and experience with fiscal management for a complex organization in excess of $1M annually.
- Proven experience leading an organization with a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion and cultural competency.
- Ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
- Proven ability to develop new programs, review and enhance programs being offered and the effectiveness in broadening engagement in the communities served.
- Demonstrated excellent leadership and communication skills (both written and verbal) as well as personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
Preferred Candidate Criteria:
- Bi-lingual (English & Spanish).
- Successful fundraising experience including grant writing, annual and capital campaigns.
- YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (external candidates will have three years to complete certification requirements).
Salary Range: $100,000-$115,000
