Teaching is a profound act of leadership. At Teach For America, we have a unique role to play in illuminating what it takes to coach & develop teachers that are early in their careers. We are looking for a D, Teacher Efficacy & Student Learning responsible for ensuring that our corps members are strong teachers that have a meaningful and measurable impact on their students. As the Director, Teacher Efficacy and Student Learning, your mission is to push the conversation on what is possible for 1st and 2ndyear teachers and to develop three best in class coaches.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serving on the regional management team that stewards our values and curates the culture that leads to a positive staff experience and staff retention
  • Coaching and developing a team of teacher coaches (Managers of Teacher Leadership Development) to achieve ambitious goals related to student achievement, corps member effectiveness, retention, culture and leadership
  • Translating multiple teacher philosophies and best practices to inform and apply an integrated coaching philosophy
  • Creating a results driven culture by regularly analyzing quantitative and qualitative data that illuminates the state of student learning and teach effectiveness. This includes survey analysis, focus groups, corps member relationships, classroom observations, and more.
  • Developing  ambitious goals to asses teacher effectiveness and student learning that are on par with how the best teacher in the country are evaluated
  • Working in partnership with other directors on Teacher Leadership Development team to create a consistent and integrated corps member experience
  • Engaging with key partner organizations (ex: Louisiana Department of Education, New Schools for New Orleans, TeachNOLA, etc.) to push the conversation on teacher efficacy and development in our region

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • 4+ years of experience coaching teachers with a record of exceptional results
  • 3+ years of managing others
  • Experience teaching in a low-income urban or rural setting is preferred

 Work Demands

  • Willing and able to work some early mornings, evenings or weekends
  • Willing and able to travel 2-3 times per year for professional development purposes
  • Willing and interested in contributing to evening or weekend events that support regional programming and culture (ex: All Staff Meetings, Staff Socials, etc.)
  • Willing and able to contribute to broader organizational and regional efforts including recruitment, matriculation, selection, etc
