Have lots of fun this summer working outside at our Camp Y-Ki waterfront. Solely responsible for safety and maintenance of beach and swimming area. Position will supervise aquatic staff and counselors. Lots of opportunity for development of a good leader working around children in one of the nicest summer atmospheres.
Swimming, archery, arts and crafts, sports, nature, camp songs, outdoor adventure, and special events… the traditional summer camp experience of Camp Y-Ki provides kids with the fun, friends, and personal growth that only summer camp can provide. Held at Kiwanis Park, Camp Y-Ki is an exciting outdoor camp experience for school-age children, offering a variety of activities which help campers build self-esteem, confidence, independence and responsibility – all while enjoying outdoor summertime fun with friends.

- Schedule and supervise lifeguard and locker room times for open swim.
- Test all campers and staff for swim abilities, and organize ability-level swim groups.
- Assure proper set-up and break-down of beach/swim area everyday.
- Represent the Y swim lesson program in a positive manner for continued recruitment of campers for school year lessons by running a quality swim lesson program at Camp Y-KI.
- Keep accurate swim records for each class.
- Assists counselors in teaching games, sports, songs or camp activities on rainy days at YMCA and during non-swimming times.
- Conduct and record weekly Waterline Drills with all camp staff.
- Supervise and instruct waterfront staff.
- Plan, attend and assist with: Family Picnics, Special Events, Specialty Camps and field trips.
- Schedule Lifeguards to assist in locker rooms daily.
- Administer First Aid at Waterfront station and communicate ALL first aid to Camp Nurse.
- Participate in ALL CAMP assemblies
- Arrive each camp day and report to Camp Director by 8:30 AM. The camp day ends at 4:30 PM. At which time you must report to Camp Director before you leave. Both arrival and departure times may change at the discretion of the Camp Director (i.e. camp meeting, first day of camp, etc.).
- Instruct counselors in proper swim skills appropriate for each swim level.
- Work in cooperation with Arts & Crafts, Archery, Sports, Nature Creative Arts, and any other Specialty Group Directors.
- Organize/Lifeguard for Family Picnics.
- In conjunction with the Camp Director, plan and implement Camp Staff Orientation Program to be held the week prior to camp. Active participation in all aspects of training with major emphasis on Waterfront training.
- Perform other duties as designated by the supervisors.
- Assist with camp drop-off, pick-up and camper lunch times unless otherwise specified by the supervisors.
- Job Description may be changed at any time by supervisor.
- Must be qualified to be the director of each individual waterfront or swimming area, including areas devoted to the practice of aquatics.
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Ability to teach children how to swim, preferably with experience in either the National YMCA Swim Lesson Program or the American Red Cross Water Safety Program.
Required Certifications
Must have current certification in:
- YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
- CPR/AED for the Pro – Rescuer for lifeguards
- American Red Cross Standard First Aid
- American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding
- American Red Cross small watercraft certification.
Hourly: $15.00 - $21.00
