The Riptide Assistant Coach & Safety Coordinator will be responsible for his/her own training group and assist with other groups on a daily basis.  The Assistant Coach & Safety Coordinator is also responsible for all administrative duties required for the team and other duties relating to lifeguarding and the overall safety of our pools as determined by the Director of Aquatics.

This position offers the successful candidate health and medical, retirement plan and Y membership benefits. All meet, travel, and educational expenses are fully reimbursed.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Coaching

  • Develops a seasonal plan for dry land and pool.
  • Conducts practices.
  • Develops meet schedules and coverage.
  • Prepares swimmer evaluations and recommendations on move-ups.
  • Attends required swim meets.
  • Submits meet entries.
  • Maintains accurate attendance records.
  • Holds goal meetings with swimmers.
  • Assists with clinics.

Staff and YMCA Relations

  • Attends internal coaches meetings.
  • Meets with Y staff as needed.
  • Review all written communications with head coach prior to publication.
  • Assists Head Coach when necessary at meets and practices.

Parent Relations

  • Holds parent meetings in groups and individually.
  • Work with Parent Committee and other volunteers.
  • Responds to parent communications by phone, in person, email or in writing in a timely fashion.
  • Keeps parents informed of problems/developments with swimmers.
  • Ensures a high level of customer service which enhances the member, program participant and guest experience and satisfaction

Promotion

  • Assists in promoting and recruiting for the overall program.
  • Assists with brochure development and program registration procedures.
  • Responsible for social media content and postings.
  • Participates in Recognition night.
  • Acts as an advocate within the community for the Riptide program.

Planning/Budget Management

  • Submits expense reports
  • Provides input to annual planning process on team objectives and strategies.
  • Participates in the budget process and manages day to day programing to ensure revenue, program goals, and expense targets are achieved

Fundraising

  • Assists with meet preparations.
  • Actively participates in and upholds the YMCA’s mission to be open and accessible to everyone, regardless of financial situation or special need. 
  • Contributes time to raise funds for this worthy and necessary endeavor by supporting the Y’s Annual Giving and Capital Development campaigns.

Lifeguard & Safety

  • Provides daily direction and supervision for Lifeguard staff.
  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring, new employee on boarding, training and supervision staff.
  • Ensures the quality, cleanliness and maintenance of Aquatics program areas.
  • Assists in the assessment of staff technical abilities, identify areas for improvement to achieve desired goals and objectives.

  • Required Certifications
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent experience. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of two years competitive coaching experience.
  • Holds USS/YMCA Coaches Certification
  • ASCA Level 2 certification or above is desirable.
  • Current YMCA or Red Cross lifeguard, first aid and CPR certification
  • Works well with young people.
  • Exhibits good teamwork skills.
  • Follows the seasonal team plan developed by the Head Coach.
  • Communicates effectively with swimmers and their parents.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, members, and community partners.
  • Supports the YMCA, the Riptide team philosophy and acts as an advocate within the community.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $25,600.00 - $32,000.00
