Reporting to the President/CEO, the Fund Development Director serves as a key member of the leadership team and is an active participant in strategic decision making affecting YMCA SOUTHCOAST’s philanthropic initiatives. In partnership with the President/CEO, this position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities including but not limited to: Annual Campaign, planned-giving, endowment and capital campaigns for the Association and it’s six branch locations.

The successful candidate will help forge new relationships across the region to build YMCA SOUTHCOAST’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. The Fund Development Director will design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing and maintaining key external alliances by cultivating relationships with individuals, foundations and organizations to increase philanthropic support.

The Fund Development Director will have primary responsibility for managing and implementing the infrastructure needed to grow a $550,000 Annual Campaign to $700,000 by 2020 through the solicitation of major gifts, special events as well as corporate and foundation support.

She or he will expand and diversify YMCA SOUTHCOAST’s donor base/pipeline and will work with Senior Team members to secure funding for new initiatives. In addition, the Fund Development Director will work closely with the board of directors and volunteers to provide support as they take on a more active fundraising role.

It is expected that the Fund Development Director will increase the size and scope of YMCA SOUTHCOAST’s philanthropic reach by systematically and effectively strengthening the organization's overall fundraising capacity.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Nurture a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization and the community
  • Provide organizational leadership to cultivate, solicit, and steward current donor pool, growing support through thoughtful solicitation approaches
  • Identify prospective individual donors. Cultivate, solicit, and steward these new donors tocreate a robust donor pipeline
  • Develop and implement annual and long-term budgets, plans and goals for:
    • Annual Support
    • Capital Campaign
    • Endowment and Planned Giving
    • Major Gift Program
  • Engage staff members and volunteers at the Association and Branch level in the identification of economic support avenues for a range of programs and projects
    • Aggressively seek new corporate and foundation funding sources
    • Develop strategies to maintain and enhance contact with current and past donors
    • Develop Major Donor prospect lists in cooperation with branches
  • Partner closely with the Director of Membership and Marketing to expand member giving and to create donor solicitation strategies including online giving platforms
  • Work in tandem with the Marketing Department to ensure quality and brand compliance in all solicitation materials, messaging and Annual Report  
  • Manage Special Events as determined by the strategic planand/or CEO
  • Manage Community Benefitsreporting
  • Coordinateproposalsandgrantsforawiderangeof fund-raisingactivitieswithinAssociation goals
    • Draft grant proposals and budgets
    • Monitor grant requirements; assist funded departments in meeting grant reporting requirements
    • Administer funded grants
    • Maintain grant files
    • Develop and maintain master calendar forgrant deadlines
  • Maintain data relative to Mission Advancement, Philanthropic giving, ROI/ROM
  • Serve as legislative liaison for communicating with area legislators and publicofficials
  • Direct, plan and coordinate the work of Development Team including supervision and evaluation, training and team building
  • Maintain effective communication with other senior staff
  • Conduct Annual and as needed trainings to ensure staff and volunteers are prepared to carry out fundraising activities on behalf of YMCA SOUTHCOAST.

Educational Background: 
B.S. Degree in Business, Management, Finance or related
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum five years of experiencein campaign management, donor cultivation, solicitation of gifts and grants from institutions
  • Experience in researching, planning, organizing, and managingevents
  • Working knowledge of planned-giving and prospect tracking
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team under pressure of tight deadlines and priorities.
  • Proven excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in developing and managing long range planningprocess.
  • Understanding of South coast region,other regions,and national markets.
  • Strong computer literacy skills including Microsoft Office and Excel.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00
