The Tri-State Family YMCA (the “Y”) promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in the communities of Neosho, Missouri and Grove, Oklahoma. The incoming CEO must possess sound decision making skills and the flexibility required to oversee an organization that serves more than 2,515 individuals each year, an operational budget of approximately $1.6 million, and 89 employees (12 full time/62 part time/15 seasonal).

The CEO is expected to possess strong communication and interpersonal skills in order to effectively manage his or her team and advocate in the community for the goals, mission, and values of the Y. The CEO must be visible at the Y, frequently interacting with members and staff, as well as within the community, through civic engagement.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The board believes its new CEO should be an experienced leader who has the background and qualities that will permit him or her to achieve excellence in the following roles:

  • Develop and Implement a Strategic Plan: The ability to work effectively with board of directors, volunteers, community leaders, and key staff to identify critical community needs and develop a strategic roadmap focused on organizational strategies. Lead staff in the development and implementation of goals through an annual operating plan. Lead volunteers in aligning committees and their charts of work to support the strategies and goals of the Y.
  • Build and Manage the Staff Team: Serve as a leader who is able to motivate, engage, and retain staff in a positive and productive manner by creating and setting an expectation for excellence. Demonstrate an engaging, open, positive, and inclusive leadership style, and display integrity, a high regard for honesty and courage and an open mind to innovative ways of improving services and expanding impact.
  • Fiscal Management: Ensure the Y’s financial resources are properly managed and report on its financial position. Use high level financial analysis to forecast trends, growth and stability while consistently leading the Y to balance or create a surplus by growing revenue and contributions and controlling costs. Empower and guide staff to lead their departments and monitor and meet budgets. Develop and implement stewardship strategies.
  • Improve Operating Performance: Partner with the board to identify issues and develop an annual tactical plan for achieving key YMCA goals and objectives to solve them. Remain fully informed of all operational issues and be able to quickly address issues that arise as well as forecast future needs. Manage and direct the Y’s operations and activities.
  • Advocate the Vision of the Y serving as a Cause-Driven Leader: Inspiring and mobilizing every community member and every Y staff member, program volunteer, board volunteer, and Y member—everywhere the Y has a presence—to make our communities stronger. Actively interact with and communicate with Y members, donors, staff and volunteers and be seen as an active and integral member of the community. Serve as an ambassador for the mission, cause and vision for the Y and be seen and respected as a community leader. Develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, while always upholding the highest standards of the values of the Y.  
Educational Background: 
Accredited 4-year college degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
  • Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or comparable experience with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff.
  • Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
  • YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (Note: Candidates not already in possession of this certification have up to three years to obtain via YMCA of the USA).
Compensation/Benefits: 

Hiring Range: $68,000 - $80,000 annualized, commensurate with experience.

Benefits: Benefits include a defined contribution plan at 8% of salary contributed by the Y (when eligibility requirements are met); 100% paid long term disability coverage; 65% health insurance including vision (employee only coverage) paid by Y; dental coverage offered premiums are paid by employee; 100% paid supplemental life on employee. Vacation plan and other benefits per personnel policy included.
