Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff and Metro Government staff, under the direction of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee Senior Vice President of Youth Development, the Support Services Director is responsible for creating a comprehensive and flexible coaching mechanism for all types of partners on best practices in positive youth development and how to cultivate safe environments in the lives of children in various group settings. The Support Services Director supports the NAZA partners in coaching onhow to design, deliver, and evaluate activities that build or strengthen youth's 21st-century skills and SEL skills.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
  • Advocates for, and institutionalizes, inclusion and diversity throughout the organization with staff and volunteers in the development of an impact-based program culture
  • Represent the YMCA with area schools, organizations, community leaders, businesses and other interested persons in the community for the purpose of building and/or and maintaining collaborative relationships that strengthen programs
  • Conducts visits to funded and affiliated partner sites
  • Provides youth development/program quality improvement coaching/consultation for funded and affiliated partners utilizing different tools, resources, and protocols; when needed, recruits and manages external coaches to provide targeted coaching services
  • Documents effectiveness of tools, resources, and protocols utilized during coaching/consultation for the benefit of the youth development field in Nashville
  • Creates partner profiles (in partnership with Evaluation Director and Programmatic Partnerships Director) to determine the needs of each partner in terms of PD, coaching or other services
  • Delivers trainings when appropriate
  • Tracks data related to coaching/consulting
  • Liaises with program evaluators as needed to ensure that the evaluators’ observations of a program site are taken into consideration before coaching/consulting with a given organization/site
  • Develops a system of peer coaching to help expand the existing experience within the youth-serving community
  • Develops and coordinates NAZA’s youth learning/leadership initiatives with funded and affiliated partners
  • Models, creates resources and curriculum for character building and youth participation/voice activities and coaches partners to implement those effectively; trains other coaches on these strategies
  • Manages budget related to area of responsibility (private grants)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Preferred) in administration, community development, education, child development, social work or any relevant area
Skills/Experience: 
  • Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA
  • Superior supervisory skills and an enthusiastic personality with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, members and participants to create a culture of service within our program
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Must be highly organized with ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the YMCA brand, programs and services
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software programs, as well as ability to use most office equipment is required
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations and ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Minimum of three years of experience
  • Experience in managing community relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in curriculum and learning resource development
  • Experience in providing training and coaching
  • Experience in and understanding of youth program quality frameworks, measurement tools (prior training with Weikart Center is strongly preferred)
  • Experience in working with assessment tools, including interpreting the analyzed data into program quality improvement actions

Required Certifications

  • Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training
  • Within 30 days of hire: CPR/ First Aid/ AED
  • Must maintain annual training requirements
