Teach For America - Nashville seeks a Managing Director of Alumni Leadership to develop and execute a strategy to harness the leadership potential of our 800+ alumni in Nashville and Chattanooga to expand opportunity and improve outcomes to reach our vision of educational equity. As the Managing Director of Alumni Leadership, you will craft the strategy to maximize the collective impact of our alums, guide the execution of multiple signature innovations, and convene alums to identify and pursue levers for educational equity in our community. The ideal candidate will be an organizer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys creating vision and structure to empower community members to work together towards a common goal. The Managing Director, Alumni Leadership will serve on our Regional Leadership Team and report to the Executive Director.
Vision Setting & Initiative Development (40%)
Develop powerful vision and strategy for our alumni work, and create strong plans to support implementation.
- Create and drive a compelling and inspiring vision of impact for our alumni work in Nashville and support the recruitment and development of alumni in Chattanooga
- Conduct a thoughtful, data-driven annual goalsetting and operational planning process
- Analyze alumni data (progress to career goals, alumni mindsets, involvement with TFA, etc) to make data-based decisions regarding strategic priorities.
- Partner with the Executive Director and other functional team leaders to build team-wide strategies for alumni involvement
- Partner with Program Leadership Team Leaders to drive a compelling strategy for developing our corps members into the alumni we need to reach One Day
- Support and manage a staff member to continue to execute one of our newest signature initiatives, the Nashville Aspiring School Leader Fellowship, which will prepare 40 school leaders in district schools over 5 years
- Support and manage a staff member to design and launch an Alumni Talent Hub that will recruit and match TFA alumni with high-impact leadership roles in Nashville and Chattanooga
Team Management & Broader Alumni Strategy (25%)
Lead and develop a strong team with strong systems.
- Manage 2 full time staff members to support our alumni outreach, communications, events, and initiatives; and build strong operations and logistics to support these workstreams and functions
- Ensure the growth and professional development of each staff members as well as alumni through ongoing relationship building, coaching, and support
- Integrate the Alumni Team strategy into the broader Program strategy and slate of activity
- Create and manage systems and structure to ensure team is on track to meet goals
- Manage budgetary and financial decision-making on the team, and ongoing financial stewardship, i.e. receipts, event planning, etc.
Community and Alumni Outreach (20%)
Meet frequently with alumni to build relationships, offer support, and gain insights; Be an active member of the education community in Nashville
- Lead the team’s efforts in meeting individually and collectively with alumni to motivate them to action, share resources and tools to assist with short and long-term career goals, coach along career paths, provide opportunities to connect with fellow alumni and volunteer opportunities, share updates on Teach For America, and re/connect alumni with the Teach For America movement.
- Own relationships with senior alumni and education leaders in Nashville, including but not limited to school leaders, Metro Nashville Public Schools, Lipscomb University, and TN Department of Education
- Be an active member of the Nashville community, specifically within the education community
- Help match alumni to high-impact opportunities, including Teach For America staff positions
- Design high-impact experiences and trainings to help further alumni leadership
Regional Leadership (15%)
Serve as a leader of our regional efforts in Nashville
- Serve as a member of our regional Leadership Team
- Serve as a member of the Program Continuum Leadership Team, and develop PC-facing strategy
- Participate in team-wide initiatives such as corps member selection and matriculation
- Represent Teach For America externally by attending events and networking in the broader community.
- Support regional team in development and implementation of Institute, Leadership Summits and robust programming across our program
- 7+ years professional experience required
- Experience managing and coaching others preferred
- Project management, strategic planning, and event management experience strongly preferred
- Teach For America corps member experience strongly preferred
- Experience with the Tennessee and Nashville education landscape a plus
