Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Executive Director, the Aquatics Director will be responsible for the development and implementation of safe and high quality aquatic programs for members and guests.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
  • Ensure the safe delivery of aquatic programs to members, participants and guests, making the YMCA a community leader in Aquatics
  • Develop and implement safe high quality programming, scheduling, purchasing of equipment, and promotion for facility and possible off-site aquatic programs and other programs
  • Maintain a clean and safe pool environment; maintain program areas and equipment to meet all relevant standards
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate a professional team of qualified aquatic staff and volunteers; ensure lifeguard coverage; staff all programs appropriately to ensure coverage during all programs, activities, and open swimming times
  • Maintain Ellis & Associates lifeguard license; comply with Ellis & Associates’ standards to maintain his/her license
  • Ensure all aquatics staff acquire and maintain necessary licenses/certifications; train all staff in emergency procedures and incident reporting
  • Direct and coordinate all aquatic programs, CPR/First-Aid/Lifeguard/AED licensing/certification programs
  • Manage all necessary information and records for the development of programs, program participants and program evaluations
  • Respond to member and participant concerns in a timely, professional manner
  • Lifeguard and lead programs in support of staff whennecessary; provide fun, supportive work environment with high staff morale and proper recognition
  • Prepare budgets for all aquatics programs and assure adherence to final budget income generation and expense control
  • Serve on and participate in appropriate Association Cabinets and Committees; attend staff meetings and training sessions
  • Serve as a leader in the Annual Giving Campaign and actively participate in Annual Giving Campaign events
Educational Background: 
High school diploma or equivalent, 4-year college degree preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA
  • Superior supervisory skills and an enthusiastic personality with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, members and participants to create a culture of service within our Centers
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software programs, as well as the ability to use most office equipment is required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Minimum 1600 hours lifeguarding experience and minimum four year’s experience in direct teaching of aquatic programs
  • Experience with pool operations and testing pool chemicals; Pool Operator certification preferred

Required Certifications

  • Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training
  • Before start of 1st shift: successfully complete Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program and obtain/maintain Ellis & Associates lifeguard license
  • Within six months of hire: YMCA P.O.O.L./Certified Pool Operator
  • Within twelve months of hire: successfully complete Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training ProgramInstructor Training and obtain/maintain Ellis & Associates Instructor/Instructor Trainer license
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $37,716.00 - $47,145.00
