Association Safety and Property Training Director

Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Executive Director of Facilities, the Association Safety and Training Director will partner with the Association Property and Legal/ Risk  departments to evaluate safety-related processes, policies, and procedures. This position will also oversee ongoing training initiatives, designed to improve and support the YMCA of Middle Tennessee’s safety-related standards.

  • Ensures outstanding customer/member service in accordance with YMCA of Middle Tennessee standards; ensures compliance with Association policies and procedures
  • Oversees the YMCA of Middle Tennessee’s Vehicle Fleet and Transportation Program
  • Provides guidance on driver requirements based on specific YMCA vehicle staff will be operating
  • Routinely inspects all YMCA vehicles and maintains documentation for internal and insurance purposes
    • Helps to implement and maintain all DOT standards and YMCA policies for YMCA vehicles and drivers
    • Serves as the primary point of contact for vehicle accidents/emergencies
    • Coordinates and manages driver training for all YMCA drivers
    • Conducts annual driver training each May prior to the start of summer programming
    • Reviews and updates policies and procedures related to transportation
  • Coordinates all OSHA online training for both center property directors and Association maintenance staff
  • Partners with Aquatics department to hold Certified Pool Operator (CPO) trainings and ensures completion of training by appropriate staff
  • Coordinates ALICE trainings for all centers and departments
  • Selects and assigns relevant quarterly trainings for property directors and association maintenance staff
  • Performs quarterly center inspections, inspecting each center for any safety-related issues and providing assistance to center leadership, as needed
  • Ensures center Emergency Response Plans  are up to date and provides semiannual trainings for all staff at each center
  • Ensures (SDS) Online items are stored in the data base and up to date
  • Oversees all safety-related work orders on Facility Dude
  • Oversees effective operation of all security cameras and software, ensuring that cameras are maintained and routinely checked, trains appropriate staff on proper utilization, and coordinates any issues or equipment updates with vendor
  • Keeps accurate records of inspections and safety-related maintenance performed
  • Coordinates and manages the selection of vendors responsible for the inspection of equipment or structures within our facilities
  • Works with Association Legal and Risk department to identify opportunities for additional safety inspection based on incident or injury reports
Educational Background: 
High school diploma or equivalent required, four year college degree preferred
Skills/Experience:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Considerable knowledge of environmental regulations
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations, fire safety guidelines, and DOT requirements for professional drivers and vehicles
  • Thorough knowledge of the proper handling of hazardous materials
  • Considerable knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in maintenance of school plants and buildings
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing and other related codes as required by law and pertaining to YMCAs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software programs, as well as the ability to use most office equipment is required
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations and ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Minimum five years of Director experience in safety-related field, facility oversight, and or comparable YMCA experience
  • Experience training and leading groups
  • Multilingual is a plus

Required Certifications

  • Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training
  • Within six months of hire: Certified Pool Operator’s certification
  • Within six months of hire: OSHA training
  • Within six months of hire: ALICE training
  • Within six months of hire: fire-safety training/certification
  • Current, valid Tennessee driver license; clean driving record (e.g., no DUI, no more than three violations in a rolling three-year period, etc.), signed driver agreement form
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $57,362.00 - $71,702.00
