As the Director, Professional Learning and Design, you will boldly lead the development and creation of learning experiences for corps members from the moment they arrive at institute until they complete their first two years of teaching.  You are convicted about creating experiences that build community among teachers and are passionate about the importance of diversity and equity in teacher education.  You are creative, entrepreneurial, and strategic, excelling as a self-starter.  You enjoy partnering with and developing others, and thrive in environments where your relationship with others must be strong.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Teacher Development & Effectiveness (55%)   

  • Partner with team leaders to develop a vision for corps member development aligned with values-based leadership, diversity, equity, and inclusive leadership development, and technical skill development
  • Manage and design corps member learning experiences from institute to the school year, including content-based development throughout the corps and diversity development during the school year. 
  • Work closely with the Associate, PLD to ensure incoming corps member development is aligned to yearly corps member outcomes
  • Create a vision of what strong teaching looks like for 1st year teachers and for 2nd  year teachers, and create learning experiences that align to this
  • Research our most pressing problems and most promising opportunities related to teacher and leadership development and identify solutions to increase teacher effectiveness and leadership
  • Support, train, and prepare MTLDs to execute ongoing corps member professional development aligned to the scope and sequence of corps member learning experiences
  • Partner closely with TLD team to track the effectiveness of corps member learnings and staff training, making revisions as necessary
  • Cultivate relationships with community partners to facilitate corps member professional development aligned to the corps members development scope and sequence
  • Partner closely with the Alumni and TLD teams to ensure corps member development aligns to the vision of both teams

  Part-time Staff Development & Management (30%)

  • Cultivate, hire, and manage a team of 12-16 professional development facilitators to provide ongoing professional development for corps members.
  • Cultivate, hire, and manage a team of 5-9 specialists to provide excellent corps member development and experiences at institute
  • Cultivate, hire, and manage the Manager of Institute Data to monitor, track, and lead the Institute team with having clear access of progress towards goals throughout Institute (teacher, student, and staff facing).
  • Work closely with our district partners, in order to cultivate and hire the Mentor Teacher and School Support Administrator for Institute
  • Lead the curriculum team on curriculum development for the summer, including assessments, lesson planning, and content feedback
  • Revise, design, develop, and execute  institute staff member spring training and conferences
  • Monitor progress towards student achievement, corps member, and staff goals
  • Coach staff members towards institute student and corps member goals

Regional and Organizational Stewardship (15%)

Support team-wide priorities for Greater Nashville and organizational-wide initiatives. Examples include:

  • Participating in staff committees and task forces
  • Corps member recruitment, admissions, and matriculation
  • Team meetings and professional development
  • Regional events and programming (such as teacher orientation and end-of-year celebration)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree required
Master’s degree preferred
Skills/Experience: 

Prior Experience

  • 5+ years professional experience preferred
  • 1-2+ years of design experience preferred
  • Experience managing institute staff or multiple years of working at institute in a content facilitator role preferred
  • Teach For America alumni or Teach For America staff experience highly preferred
