The Advocacy/Public Policy Coordinator is responsible for managing all aspects of Chapter advocacy efforts, including but not limited to recruiting new advocates, coordinating legislative visits both in district and on State and National levels, management of the advocacy database, sending information and relevant advocacy communications to advocate group, working on platform development and promotion, coordinating advocacy events such as TN Day on the Hill, Policy Forum participation from Chapter and legislative trainings.
The Coordinator will report directly to the Chapter Executive and will work with advocacy volunteers, community partners, National policy staff and Chapter staff on State and National policy issues.
Advocacy/Public Policy:
- Manage and maintain Chapter advocacy database
- Monitor policy information from National policy staff and other sources and disseminate information to advocate group, instructing them on actions requested, in a timely manner
- Recruit new advocates through Walk and other Chapter events
- Plan and coordinate advocacy council meetings
- Coordinate advocacy efforts and work with other Chapters on statewide policy issues and projects
- Plan, manage, coordinate and participate in legislative visits-(District, State and National)
- Participate in collaborative policy meetings with other organizations
- Coordinate, plan and run events related to advocacy including but not limited to TN Day on the Hill, training for legislative members and their staff associates, and other governmental offices
- Work with other State Chapters on platform development and other advocacy related issues Participate in National Policy trainings and conference meetings, as required
- Provide advocacy updates as they become available

- Travel by car to attend meetings within chapter territory and surrounding areas, and by air to attend other meetings
- Work may be stressful during periods of high volume or tight deadlines
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience in grassroots advocacy/public policy preferably including some in Alzheimer's or related health care issues
- Knowledgeable about resources in the Chapter service area
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work with a wide range of people, including Board and chapter volunteers, and advocates who may be present or past caregivers and persons with early stage Alzheimer's disease or related dementias
- Computer skills necessary for communication, record keeping and report generation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and Outlook, and the Internet
- Experience in using database software applications
- Valid driver's license. Proof of valid insurance. Outreach activities require use of own vehicle
