Audubon Florida is Florida’s oldest statewide conservation nonprofit, with policy, science and education staff working in the areas of water, wildlife, habitat and climate. The Communications Associate helps execute state-level and program-level communications to members, online donors, and the public. They will frame messages, develop content, and use marketing tools including print and digital media to reach target audiences.

The Communications Associate is also responsible for some print and online content and will work with program staff as part of executing an aggressive communications plan. The Associate will support overall organization communication goals, generate social and digital media in support of strategies to publicize programs and conservation goals with particular emphasis on climate change and Audubon’s conservation priorities. The Communications Associate reports to the Communications Director.

The preferred position location is in either Naples or Tallahassee. Exceptional candidates in the Orlando or Miami area may also be considered. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop/secure, edit, and publish stories and posts advancing Audubon’s work meeting the challenges of climate change (50%)
  • Edit and post social media content (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram), including using tools like Hootsuite (15%)
  • Manage and update the Audubon Florida website (10%)
  • Support the implementation of a strong communication strategy and program including development of emails, management of online forms, and monitoring media mentions (10%)
  • Other administrative and communications duties as assigned (10%)
  • Support the creation and editing of content for website stories, press releases, and other communications channels (5%)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant area
Skills/Experience: 
  • 1-3 years of professional experience with public relations, brand management, writing, editing, campaign organizing, project management and/or advocacy required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills a must; ability to work with multiple stakeholder groups across a decentralized organization also necessary;
  • Excellent English language writing skills, spelling and grammar with a knack for online communications and messaging required. Additional Spanish proficiency preferred;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and obvious ability to easily learn how to use tools to manage online communications tools;
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, critical thinking, and ability to work independently while meeting deadlines;
  • A flexible approach to work, with a willingness to travel, as needed, and perform occasional duties on evenings and weekends;
  • Demonstrated interest in wildlife and Audubon’s mission;
  • Basic graphic design/Adobe Creative Cloud skills a plus.
