Job Summary:
Youth Enrichment Instructors are committed individuals who want to make a difference in the lives of children and their families, working with the Site Coordinator to support the overall operation of the program site. This will focus on four core areas: leadership, tutorial, arts and crafts and physical education. They support the implementation of Positive Youth Development practices with all daily activities and interactions with children.

Areas of Responsibility: 


Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Believe in, practice and incorporate into the program the core values of Character Development (Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility).
  • Create and implement a variety of activities into School Age Child Care activity plans, follow schedule as directed, including snack time, homework time, cleanup, and activity time.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the highest standards of health and safety keeping the health and welfare of all children in mind at all times.
  • Work positively with parents, children, supervisors and co-workers to maintain high quality and professional program standards.
  • Ensure all safety standards and program requirements established by the YMCA and DCFS are being implemented and maintained.
  • Support the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:
    • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor.
    • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
    • Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
    • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required.
  • Supporting the YMCA’s mission and center operations as needed.
Skills/Experience: 

Requirements:

  • Must be 19 years of age or older.
  • Must have high school diploma or GED and one of the following:
    • 30 semester hours from an accredited college or university with 6 semester hours related to school age child care, child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, camping or other related fields.
    • 6 semester hours from an accredited college or university related to school age child care, child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, camping or other related fields and 1560 hours of professional experience in recreational program or licensed day care center serving school age children (K-5th) or a license exempt school age child care program operated by a private or public school.
    • 3120 hours of professional experience in recreational program or a licensed day care center serving school age children (K-5th) or a license exempt school-age child care program operated by a private or public school.
