Manager, Development & Alumni Relations

As a Manager, Development & Alumni Relations you will play an integral role in Teach For America-Idaho’s regional fundraising efforts through the drafting of written materials such as grant proposals, external communications and reports; as well as the planning and execution of donor cultivation and stewardship events and activities. You will also help us maximize the impact of our local movement for educational equality by connecting alumni to each other, great opportunities, and the broader community. This includes working closely with and supporting the newly established TFA-Idaho Alumni Association and members of its advisory board.

The ideal candidate is a sophisticated verbal and written communicator, highly organized with incredible attention to detail, and is able to effectively prioritize work within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. He/She must be able to build and maintain strong and sustainable systems and have the capacity to interact with people within all levels of the organization and external constituents. He/She would report to the Managing Director, Development & Communications but also work closely with the Managing Director, Program. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Development & Fundraising Execution (35%)

  • Support the Executive Director and Managing Director, Development & Community Relations in preparing for and following up from meetings with current and prospective funders by drafting emails, meeting agendas and talking points, etc.  
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a set of strong development systems for updating engagement records, payment processing, and systems for prospecting, qualifying, cultivating and stewarding donors.
  • Partner with the Managing Director, Development & Community Relations to plan and execute development events (i.e. cocktail parties, school visits, etc.)
  • Produce high-quality written materials for current and prospective funders, including grant proposals, cases for support, letters, mid-year and final reports, thank you letters, and other touch points, as well as customized materials such as spreadsheets, decks, and graphics.

Alumni Cultivation & Support (35%)

  • Connect individually with alumni in Idaho to build strong relationships with our alumni base.
  • Manage the effectiveness of the TFA-Idaho Alumni Association, including supporting them in developing and reaching their goals and participating in their regularly scheduled meetings.  
  • Develop and implement an alumni communications strategy that consistently helps connect alumni to each other and impactful leadership opportunities, and promote involvement with TFA-Idaho.
  • Plan and execute alumni events (networking hours, etc.) and coordinate alumni engagement in regional and donor events and activities (i.e. teacher induction, school visits, etc.).
  • Manage alumni engagement campaigns such as the annual giving campaign and alumni survey.

Database Systems & Management (15%)

  • Ensure best-in-class recordkeeping via TFA’s Salesforce database, including but not limited to contact and employment information and engagement activities with current and prospective donors, alumni, and external partners. 
  • Utilize data management systems to accurately report, track, and monitor progress towards development and alumni goals and assist the leadership team in making data-based decisions.
  • Use Salesforce to manage and track communications lists with prospects, donors, alumni, and community partners.

Regional & Team Responsibilities (15%)

  • Participate in regional and team activities, including induction, corps member selection and matriculation, staff meetings, functional team meetings and retreats.
  • Attend all-staff meetings, professional development conferences and experiences.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2-3+ years of professional experience, grant-writing and/or event management experience, preferred
  • Record of achieving ambitious goals and creating effective systems to manage multiple projects

Work Demands

  • Ability to work an average of 50 hours per week, majority during business hours
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required
  • Occasional travel, regionally or to various US cities (1-2 times per quarter)

  • Ability to be entrepreneurial and flexible in a fast-paced, diverse, results-oriented culture
  • Knowledge of MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel is required
  • Proficiency with CRM or donor databases such as SalesForce or The Raiser’s Edge a plus
  • Strong facility with Excel and PowerPoint and/or other graphics tools preferred
