The Community Engagement Manager is responsible for building a volunteer program in Muskegon County from the ground up. S/he will create a pilot volunteer project in Muskegon County that will build a base of volunteers to increase awareness of Alzheimer's disease and provide education to seniors over the age of 60 in the community. The position responsibilities include recruiting and retaining a large pool of local volunteers to provide volunteer driven educational programs and support groups to seniors over the age of 60. S/he will also work closely with the region's Program Coordinator to provide support, mentoring, and education to the volunteers, as well as developing strong partnerships in the community.
This is a fully benefited, at-will, grant-funded position through January 2019 with potential for longer employment.
This position will be located in Muskegon, MI and reports to the Program Director.
Conducts community assessments and community forums in partnership with the program coordinator to identify community needs and develop volunteer recruitment and service delivery strategies.
- Identifies and develops relationships with community partners to participate in town halls and assist with community assessments
- Plans town hall events, compiles information gathered and synthesizes information to inform volunteer strategy and service delivery.
- Assists Communications Director with targeted marketing campaigns.
- Assures appropriate chapter follow-up with all community forum attendees and sends info/applications to all prospective volunteers.
- Screens applications received, conducts background checks when necessary and contacts references where appropriate
- Screen potential volunteers to match established needs and criteria and refers those not matching to other sources
- Schedules and provides orientation to new volunteers
- Provides support to the Program Coordinator in mentoring new volunteers. Works in collaboration with the Program Coordinator to establish volunteer goals.
Provides monitoring, oversight, and troubleshooting for volunteers on an ongoing basis
- Implements the volunteer management system chosen by the National Association and adapts it to the local level. Utilizes this system to input and track all volunteers
- Works with Staff to ensure updated position descriptions are available for all volunteer positions
- Maintains a schedule of volunteers
- Manages and serves as main point of contact for all volunteers
- Communicates with volunteers and staff and troubleshoots as needed
- Contacts new volunteers within 90 days of placement to discuss and evaluate volunteer satisfaction and success.
- Works in partnership with staff, volunteers and community organizations to schedule volunteer activities in community
- Requests and synthesizes volunteer evaluation forms to assess effectiveness in service delivery and to provide feedback for grant report.
- Develops annual volunteer evaluation meetings/surveys to measure engagement, satisfaction and goal attainment of the volunteers
- Conducts regular meetings with the volunteers to assess needs and provide support and recognition for volunteer efforts
Provides publicity for the volunteer program
- Works closely with the Communications Director to send targeted marketing to potential volunteer sources for recruitment.
- Develops and implements volunteer recruitment campaigns throughout the year. Design a volunteer recruitment strategy with corresponding goals to achieve.
- Promotes volunteer opportunities with fliers, public announcements, press releases and other methods as appropriate
- Serves as the media contact for the volunteer program
- Three years of experience managing and evaluating volunteer programs and/or working in community engagement
- Experience and success with developing a new program/service from the ground up
- Excellent program management skills, including administrative, computer and database
- Proficiency in MS Office applications including Word and Excel. Experience in volunteer management/moves management/CRM software.
- Strong relationship builder and networker; comfortable with public speaking
- Able to handle projects and work independently and report outcomes effectively
- Experience and/or comfort with creating reports for grant tracking
- High level of integrity, diplomacy, and initiative
- Lift up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to communicate effectively with volunteers and staff
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet community demand
- Ability to travel locally as needed
- Must possess valid driver's license, good driving record, access to reliable vehicle and proof of automobile insurance.
