The Sports Director is expected to manage, develop, implement and enhance programs for youth sports, adult leagues, and camps; train, schedule and supervise staff and volunteers; provide support and encouragement to assist students in learning YMCA programs; ensure safety and cleanliness of the program area and adherence to all YMCA safety standards and rules.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Implement and direct a variety of traditional and innovative programs, ensuring that programs promote the YMCA mission.
  • Expand programs through enrollment growth and new initiatives.
  • Involve members progressing from casual to connect to committed members.
  • Hire, supervise, train and evaluate staff and volunteers to ensure the effective implementation of programs and activities. Ensure that department staff adheres to all policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a role model of strong character in word and action for members, staff and the community.
  • Assist with leading the development of programs and services through Summer Camp and Youth/Adult Sports.
  • Provides direct leadership to teach, coach and lead programs and services as appropriately assigned. 
  • Plan a variety of camp activities; ensure activities are age appropriate and contribute to the overall growth and development of the campers. Ensure comprehensive and inclusive activities.  Actively participate in activities as required to encourage participation.  Build relationships with campers to access individual needs and interests.  Ensure that all objectives are met. 
  • Monitor the gymnasium and ensure appropriate behavior is being displayed in accordance to YMCA standards. 
  • Ensure the coordination of ordering team shirts, supplies, equipment.  Ensure league program teams are organized.  Ensure that all volunteers and staff are properly trained in all aspects of YMCA progressive skill development and program participation policies.
  • Provide excellent service to members and participants.  Communicate all YMCA rules and ensure that you are accessible and identifiable.
  • Administer department budget and remain sensitive to budgetary constraints.
  • Provide branch coordination to all departments to ensure successful communication, special events and program growth.
  • Provide staff support to at least one board committee.
Educational Background: 
College Degree in related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience in supervising part-time staff or volunteers.
  • Experience in teaching/coordinating and managing sports programs.
  • Ability to operate PC and use spreadsheets, word processing and related software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in working with volunteer boards, committees, and in providing leadership to groups.
  • Ability to work well with volunteers, employees, board members, individual providing leadership to groups preferred.
  • Ability to recruit and motivate staff.
  • Exhibit strong leadership skills; possess a passion for member service, building and maintaining a culture of member service excellence
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $30,300.00 - $38,800.00
