We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to serve as Volunteer Coordinator for our breeding bird stewardship efforts. Supervised by the AMCBSP Stewardship Manager, the Volunteer Coordinator will coordinate volunteer efforts to protect nesting sites from the threats of human disturbance during the breeding season (April - July). The Volunteer Coordinator will also coordinate volunteer efforts for outreach associated with breeding bird stewardship. 

Volunteer Coordinator position will be based in Moss Point with weekly recruitment efforts in Harrison and Hancock Counties, Mississippi.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Coordinate, schedule, and confirm volunteer shifts for stewardship, especially for July 4th weekend
  • Maintain communications and continue to build upon relationships with existing volunteers
  • Communicate program volunteer needs via social media, emails, phone calls, etc.   
  • Maintain volunteer website, social media, and other communication platforms
  • Recruit new volunteers at community events
  • Attend volunteer stewardship steering committee meetings
  • Help schedule and implement volunteer training opportunities and provide individual orientations when needed
  • Educate general public at outreach events about beach-nesting birds
  • Provide assistance to the AMCBSP Stewardship Manager in organizing and implementing stewardship events
  • Participate in other projects as necessary
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least two years coordinating volunteers or staff and/or experience in scheduling shifts for a busy operation
  • Willingness to work the weekend of May 5th and the July 4th holiday is a must.
  • A positive and professional attitude, and excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including use of social media and Microsoft programs
  • Must enjoy engaging with all types of people and sharing the mission of Audubon
  • Ability to maintain a professional and upbeat attitude when working with disagreeable members of the public
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently in a dynamic, non-structured environment
  • A passion for environmental conservation and a willingness to learn
  • Must have valid Driver’s License and access to reliable vehicle suited for transportation to complete assigned tasks (e.g., driving to assigned sites along the Mississippi coast)
