Under the guidance of the Camp Director and Executive Director, the Program Director administers the policies and programs of YMCA Camp Chandler including Summer Camp, Outdoor Education, Special Events and Group Camping. The Program Director serves an integral role in the successful running of all components of summer camp programs.  He/she is responsible for overseeing the over-all daily operation of summer camp including scheduling daily programs and staff, hiring and training staff, program accountability, working with user groups and planning their schedule, and all other programming to facilitate a successful summer program for campers and groups.  He/she will also lead Outdoor Education and other camp programs. The Program Director ensures the positive experience of camp to all groups.  The Program Director serves an integral role in the successful running of all components of summer camp programs.  He/she is responsible for overseeing the over-all daily operation of summer camp including scheduling daily programs and staff, hiring and training staff, program accountability, working with user groups and planning their schedule, and all other programming to facilitate a successful summer program for campers and groups.  He/she will also lead Outdoor Education and other camp programs. Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Responsible for over-all daily operation of summer camp including hiring & training of summer staff, scheduling camp programs and user groups, and responsible for the implementation of residential and day camp programming.
  • Responsible for marketing with signage, brochure/flyer distribution, and group marketing along with scheduling home show parties to enlist campers and staff.
  • Responsible for the hiring process of Outdoor Education staff, seasonal and part-time and summer camp counselors.
  • Responsible for program implementation for special events (Halloween Carnival) and other specialty camps through the year (Christmas Camp, Father-Son / Mother Daughter Camp weekends, etc.)
  • Assist Camp Director with group scheduling, staffing, programming, equipment preparation, program budget accountability.
  • Assist as needed with facility cleanliness and preparedness.
  • Serves participants and guest through Teen Programs, Weekend Groups, Outdoor Education, Team Building, and High Ropes facilitation at YMCA Camp Chandler. Also helps in the management of user groups to insure a positive experience.
  • Attends Camp Board Meetings and other Metro YMCA functions
  • Assist with Annual Support Campaign to reach designated goal which allows more campers to experience camp.
  • Assist in the teaching of all Red Cross training classes administered at camp for summer and seasonal staff
  • Assist in year-round Waterfront Operation
  • Must reside on-site

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably in Recreation or a related field. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • This role requires experience with (and/or the ability to learn) High and Low Ropes Course facilitation, Team Building, food services, scheduling programs, hiring and training staff. 
Compensation/Benefits: 

On-site housing provided as part of compensation package

Salary: $32,000.00 - $36,000.00
