The position supports the work of the Y, committed to strengthening community thru youth development, healthy living & social responsibility

The Senior Healthy Living Director oversees the development and operations of the Health and Wellness department; including but not limited to group exercise, workout areas, personal training, and community wellness programs to adults. Provides liaison to the committee(s) and advisory board(s).

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote the Health & Wellness program and membership growth for the YMCA.
  • Executes strategies to ensure that members personally connect with the YMCA.
  • Works in conjunction with marketing and membership staff through program promotion to increase retention and recruitment of members.
  • Develops and controls department budgets related to the position; Health & Wellness.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Facilitates communication and provides leadership. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/ boards as assigned. Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the community.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
  • Ensures high-quality member-focused programs and services through innovative program development, evaluations and on-going training of staff. Assists with incentive programs and chronic disease offerings aligned with Y-USA Best Practices.
  • Coordinates special events and activities that promote the mission of meeting community needs through collaborations.
  • Provides data and reports as required for tracking success and scheduling improvements for assigned programs and work with a grant writer to continue funding for specialized programs.
  • Maintains certifications and remain knowledgeable about upcoming trends.
  • Manages concerns, complaints and resolves problems with an appreciation for the insight.
  • Oversees equipment upkeep and maintains requirements for compliance licensing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health and Fitness, Exercise Physiology or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Four or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • ACSM, NASM, NSCA, AFAA or ACE certifications are a plus; at least one-year experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.
  • Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations; knowledge in the makeup of workouts for members at all levels & abilities required.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required.
  • Must secure YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire; must be able to work one weekend day per weekend and some evenings as well.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00
