The YMCA of Montclair is looking for a proven Aquatic leader who is ready for the next challenge. 

The Association Aquatics Director intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also managing high-quality, member and community focused aquatics programs.

The selected candidate must have previous experience managing the operations of multiple Aquatic sites of an Association and their support staff (Directors, Coordinators, Instructors and Lifeguards) while taking accountability for reaching targets. The incumbent must also, be able to remotely supervise the teams at all locations and meet organizational goals. The ideal candidate combines excellent communication skills with a strategic mindset.

Ultimately, the Association Aquatics Director will ensure that the area of responsibility meets and exceeds the expectations of our business objectives and contributes to our Association’s success.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Create and uphold Aquatic Departments with high standards of safety, meeting all Y USA recommendations in an executed aquatic safety plan.
  • Ensure the compliance of all pool and health related state and local codes.
  • Create and uphold Aquatic Programs that meet community needs and provide excellent swimming lessons and water safety education for all ages demonstrated by participant evaluations and program growth.
  • Effectively market all Aquatic programs in the Association’s nine town service area.
  • Compile and monitor program statistics and evaluate the effectiveness of all program efforts.
  • Oversee and ensure accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance at each location.
  • Recruit, hire and train diverse staff; ensure records of staff certifications meet state requirements.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Maintain regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility while modeling relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Establish, monitor and effectively control all Aquatic program budgets to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Oversee the competitive aquatic leadership team.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • YMCA Multi-Team/Branch Leader certification required or begin certification process once hired.
  • CPO, current CPR and First Aid, AED certification, Lifeguarding
  • Five years experience as an Aquatics Director and minimum three years strong supervisory experience.
  • Trainer certification required and/or must be obtained within six-months from hire.
  • Experience teaching aquatics to all age groups.
  • Experience managing multiple sites and overseeing an extensive aquatic program.
  • Extensive background in training others (safety procedures), create, design ongoing training.
  • Experience in competitive aquatics.
  • Completion of YMCA aquatics training and trainer certifications.
  • Professional Rescuer and Oxygen Administrator instructor experience required.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to lead and work with volunteer committees.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00
