Under the supervision of the CEO and Senior Program Director of Outreach and Sports, this position is responsible for the support of youth outreach programs and program development within Rock Island. This includes all Outreach programming assigned by CEO.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Assist in preparing, maintaining, and developing individual program budgets as assigned; maintaining net projections in collaboration with supervisor.
- Responsible for recruiting, training, and developing part-time program staff and volunteers.
- Interprets YMCA policies and procedures to all staff in a positive manner. Ensure all staff complete appropriate trainings and certifications.
- Ensures all programs and events have adequate staffing and supervision.
- Supervises Outreach Leaders and oversees Y Winners, Y Solutions and Leadership Academy, and other programs as assigned.
- Promotes and incorporates the YMCA mission, four core values, and abundant assets in all programs.
- Monitors, evaluates, and tracks the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
- Responds to member, participant, and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
- Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community as directed by supervisor.
- Continually develops all program content, implementing new and improved curriculum as recommended by the YMCA of the USA and supervisor.
- Initiates the marketing and distribution of program information. Effectively communicates program offerings and updates to other YMCA staff, participants, and supervisor.
- Assists in the organization and carrying out of financial development efforts.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with other community organizations.
- Represents the YMCA in community events or meetings when requested.
- Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
- Responsible for program transportation and driving the YMCA Bus when needed. Must follow all YMCA policies and procedures in regards to transporting participants and utilizing the YMCA Bus.
- Monitor and maintain the condition of the bus (gas, keep inside and outside clean, check oil, tire pressure, etc.). Report maintenance items needing attention immediately to the Senior Director of Outreach, Sports & Rowing.
- Continues professional development as recommended by supervisor.
Effect and End Results:
- Participants will leave YMCA programs with stronger bonds then when they began.
- Residents and stakeholders in Rock Island will view the YMCA as a collaborative community partner.
- An increased YMCA presence in the City of Rock Island service area through expanded youth and wellness program offerings.
Educational Background:
Associate orBachelor’s Degree in Education, Recreation or related field. Must have at least one year of experience working with youth.
Skills/Experience:
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, curriculum, policy/procedure manuals, and financial documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from members and non-members of the YMCA. Ability to effectively represent the YMCA in the community when speaking to the community, community leaders, participants and staff.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages. Ability to compose and interpret a department budget.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: CPR/AED for infant, child and adult, Blood borne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, and if driving for the YMCA a valid Driver’s License and valid Car Insurance. Other trainings as assigned.
- Other Skills and Abilities: Ability tomaintain a safe driving record, and provide proof of a valid Driver’s License and current car insurance.

- Retirement: 12% Y paid (Once eligibility requirements are met)
- Vacation: Per personnel policy: Full time employees accrue and are eligible to use paid vacation and sick time based on the scheduled fulltime YMCA service length. (First full year you accrue 10 days each, that is accrued each month starting date of hire.) Paid Holidays are also included.
