Under the supervision of the Senior Program Director, the Assistant Rowing Coach will be accountable for leading and mentoring our Y Quad Cities Rowing members. This includes all participants in YQC rowing programs such as Juniors, Masters, Adaptive and Learn to Row clinics and programs.
- Primary function of an Assistant Rowing Coach is to teach proper rowing technique and skills during programs. Functions as Interim Head Coach as assigned.
- Provide a safe environment for rowers and make sure that participants are practicing safety on and off the water.
- Leads rowing memberships development efforts with the Senior Program Director by initiating new marketing strategies and addition program development. Liaison for masters and adaptive programming.
- Coach and oversee practices with the guidance of the Head Coach, plan workouts and goals for each practice, and coordinate a conditioning program for junior rowers.
- Assist with organizing and offering monthly Learn to Row programs.
- Capable of driving and towing boats with a rental vehicle to regattas.
- Assists in maintaining relationships with community partners, collegiate programs and other groups as assigned.
- Build character and instill the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all rowers by being a good role model and leader.
- Monitor, clean and maintain all equipment including rowing shells, oars, safety launches, lawn equipment, kayaks, paddleboards and wellness equipment. Works with supervisor to determine when to outsource projects or call on YMCA staff or volunteers to complete necessary work.
- Prepare and input race entries, overseeing individual and team entries.
- Attend Y meetings, team coaches’ meetings, parent meeting and any other events required by supervisor.
- Assist the Program Director with hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising staff for all YQC Rowing programs.
- Oversee Parent Committee, attending monthly PAC meetings and reporting parent volunteer hours to Program Director.
- Oversee communication: handbooks, flyers, program books, publicity, press releases and utilize the marketing department and Program Director when necessary.
- Assist Program Director as needed with other duties in the Aquatics Department and be prepared to be on call to assist Aquatics staff in the absence of the Aquatics Director.
- Assist in the day to day operations of the Bass Street YMCA and Sylvan Boathouse as directed. Including, but not limited to functioning as a Rowing Supervisor when not working directly in a program.
- Required certifications completed as directed.
- At least three (3) years of competitive rowing coach experience.
- At least one (1) year of experience with loading and transporting rowing shells to race venues.
- At least one (1) year of experience driving motorized boats or safety launches during rowing practices.
- Knowledge of rowing skill instruction, techniques, safety procedures, and risks involved with the sport. Ability to be energetic, patient, and give simple instructions on rowing techniques
- Lifeguard Certification and US Rowing Coach Certification preferred.
- YMCA Team Leader Certification preferred.
- Direct budget responsibility of at least $100k revenue - preferred

- Any offer made will be pending DCFS Background check and clearance, medical physical and submission of required transcripts and documentation of at least two years of employment with a licensed preschool.
Hiring Salary Range: $40,000 - $50,000 annually
