Under the direct supervision of the Early Childhood Development Director, the Assistant Preschool Director assists in the organization, delivery and overall quality of the Two Rivers YMCA Preschool and early childhood development activities. They will assist in leading staff to use a thematic approach or creative curriculum and assessment tools to progress each child.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Fulfill all essential duties and responsibilities while meeting DCFS licensing standards.
  • Assist in recruiting, training, developing and supervision of staff and volunteers.  Interprets YMCA policies and procedures in a positive manner.
  • Assist in ensures all early childhood development programs and special events have adequate staffing and supervision.
  • Promotes and incorporates the YMCA mission and four core values in all early childhood development programs.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and tracks the effectiveness of and participation in all early childhood development programs.  Responds to all member, participant, and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Assist with establishing new program activities and program needs.
  • Continually develops all early childhood development program content, implementing new and improved curriculum as recommended by the YMCA of the USA and supervisor.
  • Work in conjunction with director in the marketing and distribution of early childhood development program information. Effectively communicates program offerings and updates to other YMCA staff, members, participants, and the community.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with the program participants and their guardians. 
  • Represents the YMCA in community events or meetings when requested.
  • Assists in coordination of early childhood development facilities for program activities and events.
  • Aid director in enrollment procedures as requested and be available to lead facility tours with prospective families.
  • Assist with participant discipline as set up by the director.
  • Assist with the establishment and delivery a solid preschool curriculum including the use of the smart board and updated technology.
  • Achieve and maintain a safe, clean, sanitary environment that is comfortable and appealing for children and staff and in accordance with sanitation and DCFS requirements.
  • Continues professional development as recommended by the YMCA of the USA and supervisor.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Option 1 - 60 semester hours of credit from an accredited college with 18 semester hours in courses related directly to childcare and/or child development from birth to age 6
  • Option 2 - 2 years of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten or licensed day care center, 30 semester hours of college credits with 10 semester hours in courses related directly to childcare development. Must have proof of enrollment in an accredited college until 2 years of college credit has been achieved. A total of 18 semester hours in courses related directly to childcare development is required to be obtained within the total 2 years of college credits.
  • Option 3 - Completion of CDA certificate, completion of 12 semester hours in courses related to childcare development from birth to age 6 at an accredited college and 2 years of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten or licensed day care center.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  CPR/AED/First Aid Certification for infant, child and adult, Bloodborne Pathogen Training, Mandated Reporter and Preventing Child Sexual Abuse required. Gateways coursework module #1, #2, #3 (Required within 30 days of hire). All DCFS standards must be met including background check, physical and fingerprinting. Additional required trainings include food serving and sanitation certification, and any other mandated state or licensing required trainings.

$11.53 - $13.84 - $16.14 per hour
