The Senior Director of Youth Programs will oversee the development, management and operations of the School Age, After School, Youth Development, and Youth Sports programs at the Missoula YMCA. The Senior Director will be responsible for program development, innovation, management and administration, staff and volunteer supervision, budget preparation and management, and communicating with Y leadership and participants served. The Senior Director should have education, experience and a deep passion for youth, camps, education, and recreation; strong management and administrative skills; and vision for the improvement of the Y’s youth programming as well as ideas for additional ways the Y can better serve the needs of youth, children and families in the greater Missoula community. The Senior Director will supervise the School Age Programming Coordinator, Director of Youth Development and Director of Youth Sports. The Senior Director must be able to thrive in a rapidly changing environment with the unique challenges of a non-profit community service organization.
- Creates, recommends and implements a comprehensive program plan for youth recreation, after school, camp, sports and education with special consideration to best practices for diversity, inclusion, equity and accessibility.
- Promotes and incorporates the Y’s core values and character development model into all programs.
- Analyzes current programs to increase utilization and leads the growth of current programs and expansion to new sites according to metrics set by the Missoula Y leadership.
- Responsibilities include licensing, accreditation, staff training, curriculum design, marketing, implementation for school age, sports, youth, camp and education programs.
- Cooperatively develops, reviews and monitors annual program budgets to meet fiscal objectives, makes adjustments as needed and creates draft budgets to determine new program feasibility
- Determines department, facility and equipment needs and proposes necessary capital expenditures; monitors supplies and equipment and purchases necessary supplies and equipment for curriculum and programs
- Demonstrates and a thorough understanding of Montana Department of DPPHS state standards, licensing requirements and maintains State of Montana mandated licensing policies, procedures, paperwork, inspections, reporting, and practices
- Manages state paid assistance programs (Best Beginnings)
- Recruits, hires, trains and supervises direct report staff, oversees training and supervision of program staff, conducst annual staff evaluations, use results to improve service delivery
- Enters all program information into the Y database for registration purposes; manages and inputs program participant registrations and handles all related paperwork and requirements
- Assists in the marketing of the Y’s youth programs, including creation and production of program material, collateral materials and social/web content. and distribution of program information, including but not limited to posters, flyers, radio and TV interviews, writing program descriptions for print and online, social networking and email distribution
- Creates and provides evaluations to program participants and compiles responses, incorporates information into future program planning and development
- Actively participates in fund raising activities including grants and grant writing, sponsorships and Annual Support Campaign, and related special events
- Serves as a liason, develops and fosters relationships with city agencies, schools, partners and other community organizations; attends community events and meetings as appropriate
- Performs other duties as required
- Minimum of three years of leadership experience managing youth programs
- Must have current CPR or obtain within first 30 days of employment
- Valid Montana driver license with insurable driver’s record
- Preferred: Licensed lead teacher/primary according to Montana DPHHS licensing guidelines, i.e. a B.A. in Child Development, Early Education, Psychology, Sociology or similarly related field, OR two years experience in a licensed Child Care Facility OR a CDA
- Knowledge of staff supervision, planning, implementing and managing programs and strong organizational and administrative skills
- Ability to quickly adapt new skills in a constantly evolving, rapid pace culture of a non-profit community service organization
- Must be able to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with other staff members, leaders, volunteers, members, participants, parents and the general public
- Must be able to engage strangers in conversations and make all people feel welcome
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality
- A high degree of tact and discretion is required
- Interpret and enforce all safety and health regulations
- Ability to respond to emergency situations

Salary: $47,000.00 - $52,000.00
