The Senior Director of Planned Giving will lead the Y's efforts to secure planned gifts for the YMCA and its many programs. The incumbent meets with and seeks gifts from planned giving prospects and donors, will create and implement a planned giving marketing plan, provide support and education to all program Executive Directors, and steward the Heritage Club members and oversee the annual Heritage Club lunch.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Lead the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities' planned giving program.
  • Work with SVP to create and implement a planned giving program that will achieve the organizational objectives for the association, branches, and camps.
  • Build and maintain relationships with a portfolio of assigned donors and prospects.
  • Visit donors and prospects to provide information about charitable gift planning, present gift illustrations, and seek gifts.
  • Ensure that contact reports are recorded in the Raiser's Edge database.
  • Collaborate with marketing, communications, and digital colleagues to design planned gift marketing materials, form key messages, identify target audiences, and profile donors.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the Development Team and branch, camp, and program leadership.
  • Support, educate, and coach program Executive Directors in their efforts to secure planned gifts from their members and contacts.
  • Give planned giving presentations to donors, prospects, Y members, and staff.
  • Work with leadership to establish a Planned Giving Committee of the General Board.
  • Work with donor database manager and prospect research to identify key prospect segments with useful and appropriate contact information. 
  • Lead the planning of annual Heritage Club luncheon.
  • Maintain active involvement in the fundraising field; pursue continuing professional development opportunities to stay abreast of trends and new knowledge in the field.
  • Actively participate in the Minnesota Planned Giving Council and/or Association of Fundraising Professionals.
  • Represent the YMCA locally, regionally, and nationally.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree required; juris doctorate or other advanced degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in planned giving or closely related field such as estate planning or development/fundraising with strong emphasis on planned giving activities.
  • Demonstrated professional or volunteer experience with campaign-related major and planned giving preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a large organization and to collaborate with development team and others to meet donor needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and build relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills including writing, editing, research, and presentation. Excellent attention to detail.
  • Reasonable level of experience using Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel locally, and occasionally to northern Minnesota, to attend meetings and special events.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $71,000.00 - $83,000.00
