The Headwaters Project Coordinator (HPC) develops, manages and advances conservation programs, strategies, plans and methods for small to medium scale geographic areas in Minnesota. Location will be negotiable, could be Minneapolis, Brainerd, St. Cloud or elsewhere. Much of the work will take place in Central Minnesota to the Twin Cities of Minnesota. Estimated travel requirements of this position will be 25-50%.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • The Headwaters Project Coordinator provides technical leadership and support to the Freshwater Program and plans and directs the program’s work within portions of the Mississippi Headwaters Basin. 
  • The HPC develops and implements conservation strategies and employs a full range of restoration, management and protection tools to acquire varying degrees of legal interest in land and implements a variety of strategies to secure public and private support for TNC conservation priorities. 
  • The HPC coordinates community support, coordinates collaborative efforts, designs, plans and implements multiple conservation projects.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience in natural resource management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience building relationships to work closely with a variety of partners, i.e., media, government officials, internal scientists.
  • Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English.
  • Must have valid driver's license and good driving record. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross cultural experience appreciated.
  • Experience managing soil and water resources restoration, enhancement and protection projects.
  • Experience with GIS and conservation planning concepts.
  • Experience with public and private proposal writing and fundraising.
  • Knowledge and experience with Federal, State and Local water resource agency policy, practices, programs and funding mechanisms.
