In the summer of 2018, Teach For America - Milwaukee will host a regional institute, an opportunity for Milwaukee to conduct pre-service training for their corps members (CMs) in their region in lieu of sending them to a centralized institute. Through the institute, we aim to produce leaders that are oriented toward achieving radical, life-altering results with their students by ensuring our curriculum focuses first on Heart, Hustle, and Humility; and embodies the pillars of Culturally Responsive Pedagogy. This summer, we will work closely with Milwaukee Public Schools to deliver a rigorous academic summer school program across 2 school sites in Milwaukee to approximately 500 students. 

Teach For America – Milwaukee seeks an Operations Director who will manage staff and plan projects to ensure smooth logistical operations of the summer institute. The Operations Director manages projects and a team of four to eight operations coordinators toward efficient and effective operations that ensure the successful execution of the program and the well-being of its participants.

Success in this role looks like setting a clear vision for how operations systems support and enhance the culture of Teach For America - Milwaukee corps members, maintaining strong partnerships with external constituents, and effective management of a team to realize the vision and respond quickly to corps and staff member feedback.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Operations directors are driven by the desire to manage a team of people to create and execute efficient systems that enable corps members and staff to concentrate on students and instructional responsibilities.The Operations Director impacts the entire institute community, and therefore plays a significant role in the experience of corps members, the effectiveness of institute staff members, and the outcomes for students. Operations directors are responsible for creating systems, and training and managing their team, toward fostering a culture of Heart, Hustle, and Humility, such that:

  • CMs will feel trust and belonging in the region
  • CMs will be pushed and become imaginative and generative about what we are building
  • CMs will have the community necessary to be incredible educators for Milwaukee students
  • CMs will report high satisfaction with Teach For America - Milwaukee as measured by the Corps Strength Index.
  • CMs will internalize their role and impact in Milwaukee as measured by the Corps Alumni Learning Index.

 Responsibilities

  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues towards a shared outcome
  • Train, develop and manage four to eight operations coordinators to execute efficient and effective operations at the Operations Hubs.
  • Have capacity to produce detailed project plans during the spring for execution in the summer by the team of operations coordinators
  • Build, maintain, and leverage relationships with Teach For America - Milwaukee staff and external partners.
  • Develop and maintain a positive culture of Heart, Hustle, Humility at the Operations Hubs.
  • Comply with budgeting and documentation procedures to support Teach For America-Milwaukee’s fiscal responsibility.
  • Analyze and use operations data develop an opinion and  improve effectiveness of systems throughout the summer
  • Ability to work early morning and evening hours required; also, some weekend hours required
  • Ability to attend at spring training conferences required; participation in spring team meetings and completion of related pre-work are also required
  • Ability to move boxes, set up and break down items, especially during special events
  • Valid driver’s license required
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
