The Pennsylvania State Alliance of YMCAs consists of all 62 associations and 105 branches located in communities across the Commonwealth. There are more than 700,000 Pennsylvanians who are members of their local Y. More than 180,000 other citizens participate in hundreds of Y programs and services. This position is a work from home position but must reside in the state of Pennsylvania, preferably in the Western or Central area of the state.
Under the supervision of the State Alliance CEO, this position will provide direct services to member Y organizations throughout the state. Working with Y CEO’s, their staff and Board of Directors, this position will leverage Y-USA resources to help local Ys with strategic planning, board governance, management agreements, shared services, and sustainability through education and best practices. As well have active involvement in the work of the Alliance including public policy, networks, training, programs, and demonstrating the collective impact of the Ys.
- Manage the Alliance’s and Y USA’s key service delivery system to Pennsylvania YMCAs as detailed in the Alliance Partner Grant Agreement with Y-USA. Leverages the resources, talent, tools and experience across the state and from Y-USA to ensure excellence in leadership, governance, strategic planning, development, asset management and operational effectiveness in every one of the state’s Ys.
- Collaborate and advocate for and institutionalize inclusion and diversity throughout the organization. Initiates the development of relationships with influential leaders to impact and strengthen the community. Be an inspirational leader who navigates complex political and social circles
- Demonstrate organizational leadership and mission advancement. Incorporates the Y’s mission and values into the organization’s vision and strategies. Ensures community engagement; promotes the global nature of the Y. Leads a culture of volunteerism ensuring engagement, inclusion, and ownership. Leads a culture of philanthropy and demonstrates ownership of role, function and the Alliance, as well as accountability for Y association project outcomes.
- Ensure operational effectiveness and creativity with penetrating insight as well as strategic and critical thinking skills. Works well and effectively with Alliance, Y-USA and member Y personnel. Demonstrates the ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment. Invests resources in well-designed innovation initiatives. Creates a structure to deliver organization-wide results to achieve objectives. Supports the organizational team, determine benchmarks and ensure appropriate leadership to meet Alliance objectives
- Prioritize personal growth, and also the pursuit of a learning organization for the Alliance. Effectively drive change by leveraging resources and creating alignment to expand organizational opportunities. Shares authority and demonstrate courage and humility. Possesses the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrate up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.
- Build the organizational capacity of Pennsylvania YMCAs through technical assistance and the delivery of direct services including:
- Strategic planning
- Board governance
- Shared services and collaborations
- Management agreement
- Merger support
- Recognition and early intervention for struggling Ys
- Develop and install a method to consistently contact each PA YMCA and assess their operational and external needs.
- Promote and manage relationship building among PA YMCA executives and volunteer leaders.
- In consultation with the CEO, develop and implement a work plan for the Alliance service delivery system
- Support the specific statewide operational and strategic statewide initiatives of the PA Y Alliance.
- Overnight travel for trainings, conferences, YMCA consultations etc, will be required to carry out responsibilities of the position, approximately 50% of the time and as budget allows. Travel frequency will depend on factors such as place of residence and location of YMCAs and type of support required.

Salary: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00
