Under the direction of the YMCA CEO/President ensures successful operation of the programs and facilities of the Northern Middlesex YMCA, including child care, camping, new program development, volunteer recruitment, staff supervision, community relations, collaborations, budgeting and financial results.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Direct supervision and evaluation of exempt staff, which includes: Early Childhood Director, Outdoor Center Director, School Age Director, Youth and Teen Director and any other additions to the staff as deemed necessary by the President/CEO
  • Implement strategic initiatives, develop benchmarks, measure outcomes, and provide regular reports to President/CEO and BOD.
  • Research and write grants for new and existing youth development programs.Oversee grant-funded youth programs assuring deliverables and outcomes.
  • Monitor monthly financial reports to assure that revenue targets are met and expenses are controlled.
  • Represents and promotes the YMCA in the community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
  • Ensure the operational growth of the YMCA through program expansion, new site development, collaborations, and grant-funded opportunities.
  • Identify potential areas for cooperative programming to accomplish YMCA goals, and works with staff groups to develop and implement programs. Fosters a climate of innovation to develop community needs based youth development services and leads staff in the planning, development and implementation of new program initiatives and activities.
  • Provide staff leadership to assigned committees and task forces of the Board of Directors and attend monthly Board of Directors meetings.
  • Implement and oversee a program evaluation system to guarantee faithfulness to the Y’s cause, and a high-quality commitment to YMCA standards and program best practices.
  • Work in collaboration with the Development Department and Development Committee to recruit and cultivate new donors and volunteers and to motivate all YMCA staff and volunteers in our association to support the culture of philanthropy critical to successful fundraising.
  • Employ and supervise non-exempt staff where needed.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, membership, and co-workers.
  • Assure the accurate and proper scheduling of the physical education facilities to maximize member services and achieve the Association’s goals.
  • Represent the YMCA in at least one community service organization.
  • Perform tour and building coverage as determined by schedule and organizational need.
  • Assist in all YMCA activities and special events, as needed, to ensure their success.
  • Administrator in charge in the absence of the President/CEO.
  • Perform other duties as designated by the President/CEO.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in education, human services, recreation, social services or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Eight or more years of professional leadership experience in the YMCA or another nonprofit preferred.
  • Experienced grant writer.
  • Knowledge and experience in all aspects of youth development and community outreach, including staff supervision and development, successful membership practices, quality program development and implementation, camping and child care, volunteerism, curriculum development and sound financial practices.
  • Experience with special needs children and adolescents.
  • Understanding of the nature and purpose of the YMCA and the respective roles of volunteers and staff.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community; track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others.
  • YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred.
  • The employee is expected to adhere to all Northern Middlesex YMCA policies and to act as a role model in adherence to YMCA policies.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00
