The Middlesex YMCA is looking for an experienced professional to join our team as Membership Director to lead and direct all aspects of membership including developing plans and implementing new procedures to achieve sales and strategic objectives. They will oversee member services staff to provide a positive member experience and drive membership revenue growth while assisting and developing strategic approaches to move the operations to the next level of member services, sales and retention including identifying marketplace opportunities, prospects and engaging new partners.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Works closely with and follows the direction of the Vice President of Operations to ensure delivery of the Middlesex Y strategic plan.
  • Effectively plans and executes strategies that support new member recruitment and ensures that membership revenue and sales goals are met.
  • Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Implements membership strategies that support retention of existing members. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
  • Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in, and online registration. Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues.
  • Develops and manages the membership annual budget taking appropriate action to correct variances.
  • Recruits, hires, train, develop, and hold accountable membership staff as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
  • Supervises the Membership Coordinator and ensures proper implementation of welcome desk procedures. Coordinates with the business office as necessary on financial transactions.
  • Builds external market position by locating, developing, negotiating, and closing business relationships.
  • Supervises the Community Wellness Program Coordinator with a focus on increasing the reach and impact of our Diabetes Wellness, Livestrong at the YMCA and Blood pressure Self-Monitoring programs. 
  • Supervises Childwatch Coordinator 
  • Organizes membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA.
  • Plans, schedules and leads all Membership team meetings.
  • Leads assigned aspects of the fund-raising campaign.
  • Responsible for scheduling and oversight of Building Coverage and tour schedule. Will take the lead on tours during key membership promotion times and/or when extra coverage is needed. 
  • Will be a member of Building Coverage team and will respond to any emergencies in the building. 
  • Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
  • Adheres to all policies, guidelines, rules, and best practices as outlined by the Middlesex YMCA or directed by supervisor
Educational Background: 
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 3 years in sales with a demonstrated record of accomplishment of generating leads and closing sales.  
  • Minimum 3 years leading a team and staff supervision 
  • Experience supervising a 2,000 + membership unit facility 
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with membership based software (Daxko preferred) 
  • Genuinely display strong Listen First skills, and outstanding leadership in relationship building, teamwork, and community relations.  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent follow-through.
  • Must possess initiative, enthusiasm, good judgment, and strong customer service skills.
  • Able to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. 
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays 
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations 
  • Understand the relationship of the general public to the association, of staff to volunteer, and of staff to staff, and be able to effectively enhance and cultivate those relationships.
  • Ability to interpret and carry out the mission and goals of the YMCA when implementing retention and acquisition strategies.
  • Ability to supervise staff and volunteers while actively handling a variety of functions at the same time.
  • Work as an integral member of a staff team.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $48,000.00 - $55,000.00
