Do you have a passion for competitive Swimming and teaching children?
The Head Swim Coach will oversee all aspects of operating a successful swim team including supervision of all coaching staff and maintaining positive relationships with swim team members, parents and the community.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Exemplify the character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all relationships.
- Must serve as a role model for youth with the ability to demonstrate the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibilityand have a positive and encouraging nature.
- Understand the developmental needs of and be able to work effectively with children of various ages (5-18).
- Develop, implement and supervise all competitive swim team programs with the intent to develop and build the program.
- Schedule all swim team practices and meets. Attend, manage and run all swim team meets.
- Responsible for the coordination of all swim meets including meet entry fees and reporting meet results.
- Recruit, train, and supervise all assistant swim team coaches and volunteers.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual budget and ongoing forecasts. Responsible to respond to variances.
- Assist the business office with collection of outstanding balances
- Proactively communicate with staff, team members and parents. Respond in a timely manner to all swim team member/parent inquiries, comments and/or complaints.
- Work with the Aquatic Director to maintain appropriate inventory of equipment and supplies as well as with the Facilities Director monitoring pool facilities and equipment.
- Work with the Parent Group to coordinate volunteers for swim meets, manage the swim team custodial account.
- Work with the Aquatic Director to promote the swim team
- Actively participate in the annual campaign and other fund and friend raising events as directed by the CEO.
- Positively represent the YMCA and maintain relationships with professional and community organizations/agencies.
- Participate in activities, workshops, conferences, etc. that will enhance personal and professional growth.
- Remain current in all YMCA swim team requirements and certifications.
Skills/Experience:
- At least 21 years of age
- It is preferred that this position have a bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation or a related field
- Three years of experience with the following: Assistant competitive swim coaching level or higher; Supervising staff
- Have strong interpersonal communication skills
- Be able to communicate effective orally and in writing
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Must have or obtain the following certifications within 6 months: Lifeguarding; CPR/AED for Lifeguards (Professional Rescuers); Coaching Certification: YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming & Diving and/or USA Swimming Certification
