Latin America Region (LAR) Business Development Director is responsible for directing all aspects related to the Corporate segment in the Latin America Region and is responsible for securing significant financial resources to support conservation goals in Latin America. S/he directly manages a team of Business Development Associate Directors and Coordinators deployed in the US and Latin America that engages with corporations by creating joint value propositions that align with TNC strategies and corporations’ business or philanthropic needs. Propositions may lead to 1) generate financial resources for LAR, 2) expand corporate sustainable practices and 3) create brand visibility opportunities to support TNC’s conservation agenda. Reports directly to the LAR Director of Financial Sustainability. S/he is based in Mexico.
LAR Business Development Director works towards meeting the strategic priorities of the program by developing and managing the corporate segment of the Latin America Division. S/he is responsible for defining objectives and plans to deploy the development strategy for each channel under the corporate segment including Philanthropic Proposals, Fee for Service contracts, and Cause Related Marketing deals. S/he is also responsible for periodically assessing markets’ situation and updating the corporate development strategy as needed.
S/he leads LAR staff dedicated to the corporate segment, and supervises directly a team of Business Development Associate Directors responsible for specific markets in the US and Latin America and a team of Coordinators that support the Business Development Associate Directors. S/he will lead diverse activities, develop complex processes, project outcomes, and initiate solutions in order to improve effectiveness. S/he works with teams to establish and track measures and lead indicators of progress and success. S/he ensures the programmatic work is a collaborative and well-integrated effort within development and across the organization, including organizing internal communications.
LAR Business Development Director leverages constructive and effective relationships with a wide range of people, including senior management, donors, volunteers, public and private sector colleagues, and partners including financial/legal advisors. S/he is an engaging communicator, able to transmit a broad vision to others. S/he manages vendor relationships, as needed.
S/he may be responsible for a select group of prospects and donors, the size of the portfolio will be determined in consideration for the scope of supervisory responsibility. S/he may be responsible for volunteer engagement and managing selected trustee relationships.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Accountable for fundraising +$15 million a year from LAR corporate portfolios and influencing for +$4 million a year from WO/States corporate portfolios.
- Responsible for a team directly managing a portfolio of 190 - 250 corporations and supporting the indirectly managed portfolio of 35 – 50 corporations, including corporations with the capacity to give/invest over $100,000, once the portfolio is developed. Responsible for the team’s completion of 665 - 800 moves from his/her directly managed portfolio and support 110 - 200 meetings from the indirectly managed portfolio as necessary. Responsible for a team to complete 96 - 150 letters of intent or proposals annually from the directly managed portfolio and supporting 35 - 50 letters of intent or proposals from the indirectly managed portfolio.
- Develops and administers budget and fundraising objectives, evaluates results and develops corrective strategies as needed.
- Broad management responsibility for administrative and professional staff, including training, professional development, establishing clear directions, setting “stretch” objectives, and overseeing the execution of day-to-day work.
- Manages strategic initiatives through collaboration with stakeholders in order to enhance performance in accordance with short and long-term objectives.
- Ensures that programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for ethical compliance.
- Commits actions and resources in a way that affects public image, and binds the organization financially or legally.
- Leads new programs/initiatives that will ensure department and organization-wide goals and strategies are achieved.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience asking for and closing major gifts.
- Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents such as major donors, foundations and corporations.
- Experience in planning and delivering budgetary responsibilities.
- Experience managing and supervising a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience working in a large, complex, not-for-profit environment.
- Experience, coursework, or other training in principles, practices, and procedures of charitable giving, particularly in the areas of capital campaigns, major gifts and planned giving.
- Fluency in English and Spanish or Portuguese
