The Major Donor Coordinator (MDC) assists in the implementation of tactics for the ongoing cultivation of donors. The MDC supports ongoing opportunities for contact with past and current donors.
The Major Donor Coordinator will support senior fundraisers managing major donor portfolio(s) of prospects/donors capable of giving $100K+. The Major Donor Coordinator will work towards meeting the strategic priorities of the Major Donor segment by developing and implementing tactics for approved plans, and completing and/or overseeing day-to-day tasks. They will work on a variety of activities including providing detailed program information to prospects and drafting personalized correspondence and acknowledgments. They will interpret guidelines and analyze factual information to support the identification and qualification of donors and develop proposals with the support of other team members. The Coordinator must have advanced knowledge of the processes, systems and resources utilized for fundraising. S/he will be responsible for organizing and driving successful outcomes from Major Donor trips and events. The Coordinator will keep up-to-date on market trends and best practices in order to improve services. The Coordinator works in close cooperation with any or all of the following: Major Donor Associate Director, Conservation staff, donors, volunteers, vendors, financial institutions, and legal and accounting professionals. S/he will be responsible for good data hygiene, ensuring that data required for reporting is accurate and up-to-date. S/he will use the Conservancy’s donor database to update donor information, produce reports, perform analysis, and track and cultivate donors.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Support the Major Donor fundraisers accountable for fundraising +$5 million a year from LAR major donor portfolios managed by LAR and +$12 million a year from WO/States major donor portfolios.
- Support Major Donor fundraisers and International Chapters to organize and deliver at least 3 Major Donor trips in year 1, generating $550,000 USD in revenue
- Act independently within broad program goals to prioritize tasks in the absence of specific instructions and exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems
- Coordinate proposals and activities with several variables, diverse stakeholders in multiple countries, set realistic deadlines, and manage a timeline.
- Take decisions that may bind the organization financially or legally.
- Ensure that the correct stakeholders are engaged at the correct times to ensure programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
- Financial responsibility includes working within a budget, and negotiating with donors
- May participate in complex negotiations.
- May supervise administrative, professional and/or volunteer staff, responsibility includes training and professional development.
- Travel occasionally, work long and flexible hours as needed.
- Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines.
- Work within scope of program’s strategic goals.
- Experience building relationships with staff, customers or similar.
- Previous experience in fundraising and specifically development of proposals within an international team.
- Experience generating reports and interpreting the data.
- Experience in business writing, editing, and proofreading.
- Experience working across teams/departments.
- Experience, coursework, or other training in fundraising principles & practices.
- Fluent in English and either Spanish or Portuguese.

- Ability to determine an individual’s interests, capacity and potential for helping the Conservancy meet its goals, and act appropriately to tie those interests with the Conservancy’s work.
- Ability to implement individualized cultivation, solicitation and recognition plans.
- Ability to use existing technology to achieve desired results.
- Direct fundraising related experience.
- Experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.
- Experience with database administration and spreadsheet software.
- Knowledge of current trends in the specific field.
- Strong organization skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
