The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South is a growing $27m Association with 11 locations serving areas in Tennessee, E Arkansas & N Mississippi.

Under the general direction of the Operations Director, Sr. Operations Director or Vice President for Youth Development, this position ensures the successful operation of assigned sites to include program quality, program promotion, budget monitoring, personnel supervision and community relations.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Lead assigned sites and take responsibility for the successful operation of school age and camping programs, including observing, coaching, and supervising program site directors and group leaders.
  • Supervise full-time staff designated to their programs with a focus on developing leadership competencies.
  • Coach and supervise Site Directors and Group Leaders in areas including, but not limited to:
    • planning and implementation of the program
    • providing high quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum
    • maintaining stimulating and orderly program spaces.
    • purchasing appropriate supplies, equipment, and materials, following YMCA purchasing guidelines and procedures.
    • operating their programs in conformity to state/county licensing and agency regulations.
    • maintaining program enrollment at appropriate levels.
    • conducting program tours and periodic open house/registration events.
    • maintaining accurate and complete records.
    • establishing emergency procedures that meet or exceed all safety and licensing standards and that these procedures are followed.
    • planning and conducting parent involvement events (i.e. Parent Group, picnics, holidays, and parent/child activities).
  • Under the supervision of the Operations Director, Sr. Operations Director or Vice President takes an active role in program planning, program promotion and publicity.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, community partners and parent groups.
  • Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner, seeking guidance from supervisor(s) and peer Child Care Directors as needed.
  • Evaluate sites in areas including, but not limited to, proper implementation of curriculum and lesson planning, program quality control, and recruitment and retention of program participants.
  • Assure compliance with state and local regulations.
  • Assist the Operations Director, Sr. Operations Director or Vice President in monitoring the annual budget for assigned sites.
  • Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed at all sites.
  • Model superior communication and leadership to their team.
  • Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign at assigned school sites, as well as supporting overall campaign goals for Centralized Child Care.
  • Attends and participates in assigned staff meetings and special events to provide a collaborative and cohesive approach to the YMCA’s vision and mission.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by and agreed to with the Operations Director, Sr. Operations Director or Vice President to meet the changing needs of the program and/or branch.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in a directly related field or an equivalent combination of directly related experience, training, and/or education.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five or more years of YMCA childcare experience preferred. Comparable experience in other organizations may be considered.
  • Team Leader certification is preferred.
  • Meets minimum qualifications for child care director as outlined in the Tennessee [Mississippi] Department of Health standards for childcare.
  • Knowledge of child care licensing requirements for Tennessee [Mississippi] Department of Health for child care and YMCA standards.
  • Must maintain a current motor vehicle license and acceptable driving record that meets YMCA standards.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $47,500.00 - $58,000.00
