The YMCA of Metro North located north of Boston provides exemplary services in Lynn, Peabody, Saugus, Melrose, Lynnfield and Stoneham.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Program Director, the Youth Development Director is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, expansion and evaluation of youth programs & events including the oversight of the summer day camp program (Camp Melstone). The principal objective will be to develop meaningful programs and services in order to fulfill the YMCA’s mission.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • An understanding of the needs of the communities served by the YMCA and represent the YMCA in a positive manner with specific focus on youth and teen development.
  • Requires minimum of 24 hours of direct service per week, including but not limited to teaching instructional classes, coaching teams, officiating games, leading rental groups, building and maintaining middle school and teen initiatives, managing leagues and special events.
  • Responsible for all planning and operations within the Youth Development Department.
  • Customer Service and Human relations with general public, membership and staff, ensuring participant satisfaction, program quality, proper registration policies, and safety at all times.
  • Fiscal Management: Assist in overseeing department operating budget, purchasing equipment, program supplies.
  • Oversee all aspects of Birthday Party Program, including booking, payments and day of support.
  • Must be able to effectively relate to and or teach various age groups, from preschool age up through adult.
  • Leadership: Supervise and Schedule supporting employees including: Class instructors, Referees, Volunteers, Seasonal Staff, and Camp Staff
  • Responsible for administering payroll for direct reports.
  • Organization: Coordinating all aspects Youth & Adult Sports Programming including planning, scheduling and managing.
  • Maintain database and attendance records for all programs.
  • Work with directors to provide program brochure content to marketing department according to association schedule to ensure timely production of all program brochures.
  • Program Development: create and implement program curriculum
  • Work with Facilities Director to ensure safety for all employees and program participants.
  • Helps develops and manages fundraising events for the annual campaign.
  • Supervise gymnasium, sports equipment and rentals related to program areas.
  • Be available for Manager on Duty Shifts required by the YMCA
  • Develop new relationship and partnership with the communities we serve.
  • Create new programs and expand existing programs.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent recommended.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two years of related administrative and direct service experience preferred.
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Completion of Redwoods Trainings including Child Abuse Prevention and Bloodborne Pathogens; CPR; First Aid; AED.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to work night and weekend hours.
