The Outdoor Center Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and facilitation of all outdoor center activities, adventure day camps, summer camp outdoor leadership development (overnight travel) programs, overnight (school, retreat) programs, specialty camps, aquatics programs, challenge course programs, family programs, membership, and off-site educational programs.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Establishes new program activities, undertakes efforts to recruit new business, and expands program activities within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal revenue and expense objectives.
- Coordinates use of facilities for program activities, membership offerings, and events.
- Directs and supervises school-aged programs, retreats, membership, and family programs, and all activities associated with each, to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
- Compiles program and membership statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program offerings.
- Assists and provides support for YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program and membership information, may organize and schedule program and membership registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications.
- Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner, and promotes and ensures a culture and expectation of first-class customer service amongst direct reports.
- Leads departmental meetings and participates in all staff meetings.
- Identifies and assists in applying for relevant grants to assist with fundraising efforts.
- Oversees and manages direct reports including full-time and seasonal staff.
- Ensures that full-time and seasonal staff have all applicable and necessary certifications and/or licenses, and have undergone appropriate training.
- Responds to all risk management issues and collaborates with appropriate staff. Completes all incident reports within 24 hours of incident occurrence.
- Locate applicable grants for funding, and participate in and support other organization fundraising activities.
- Ensure program compliance with applicable standards and regulatory bodies including the American Camping Association (ACA), and the Burlington County Health Department.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience:
- One to two years related experience preferred.
- Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens
- Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications (Team Leader Certification within first two years).
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $39,700.00 - $49,700.00
