Under the direction of the Outdoor Center Director, the Challenge Course Program Coordinator is responsible for supervising the challenge course programs as well as delivering other Outdoor Center programs. In collaboration with the Program Directors, the Challenge Course Program Coordinatororganizes and implements safe, high quality, participant-focused YMCA challenge course programs. This position will ideally run mid-March through mid-November, with possibilities of working in other areas of camp through the winter season.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Directs, supervises, and executes program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the organization in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Recruits, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance in conjunction with Program Directors. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures that records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Monitors daily challenge course operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Conducts and ensures proper maintenance and inspections of challenge course areas. Maintains accurate records of facility maintenance and usage.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all guest and community nquiries and complaints in a timely manner. Strives to provide first-class customer service, and to expect the same from staff that are supervised by the Program Coordinator.
- Coordinates use of facilities for program activities.
- Hosts guest groups and facilitates various program activities.
- Attends and contributes to staff meetings.
- Conducts challenge course training and in-services.
- Develops and monitors challenge course program and capital budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness and participation
- Participates and supports fundraising activities including special events and fundraisers, and the identification of and application for applicable grants.
- Responds to all risk management issues and collaborates with appropriate staff. Completes all incident reports within 24 hours of incident occurrence.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum age of 21.
- Minimum of eighty hours of accepted challenge course training, and at least two years or 200 hours experience in challenge course facilitation. Must be able to provide documented experience working and facilitating for both low & and high challenge course programs.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Compensation/Benefits:
