Under the direction of the Outdoor Center Director, the BOLD & GOLD Program Coordinator is responsible for supervising the BOLD & GOLD wilderness trips program as well as delivering other Outdoor Center programs. In collaboration with the Program Directors, the BOLD & GOLD Program Coordinator organizes and implements safe, high quality, participant-focused YMCA youth programming and trips. This position will ideally run mid-March through mid-November, with possibilities of working in other areas of camp through the winter season.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Directs, supervises, and executes program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the organization in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Administration of all wilderness trips, ensuring proper staffing, logistics, and the overall quality and compliance of the programming offered.
- Develops and monitors the budget for trips to meet fiscal objectives.
- Works to establish partnerships with like-minded organizations with a focus on multicultural diversity, inclusion, and getting youth outdoors.
- Recruits, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance in conjunction with Program Directors. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Monitors daily program operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of trips equipment. Maintains accurate records of equipment maintenance and inventory.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all guest and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. Strives to provide first-class customer service, and to expect the same from staff that are supervised by the Program Coordinator.
- Coordinates use of facilities for program activities.
- Hosts guest groups and facilitates various program activities.
- Attends and contributes to staff meetings.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
- Participates and supports fundraising activities including special events and fundraisers, and the identification of and application for applicable grants.
- Responds to all risk management issues and collaborates with appropriate staff. Completes all incident reports within 24 hours of incident occurrence.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum age of 21.
- Minimum two years experience leading wilderness trips and youth leadership programs.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Certified Wilderness First Responder - have or obtain within 90 days.
- Certified in First Aid and CPR/AED - have or obtain within 90 days.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Preferred:
- YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard - have or obtain within 90 days.
- YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, have or obtain within 90 days.
Compensation/Benefits:
Hourly: $13.00
