Under the direction of the Executive Director this position’s primary responsibility is for the fitness, group exercise and wellness programming & staffing of these areas at the branch.  They will coordinate assigned programs and supervises staff in specified areas (wellness, fitness, active older adults, strength training, youth fitness, etc.).  He/she oversees both departments and leads the staff to provide a sustainable level of excellence in character, customer service and execution of job duties.  Ensures that programs operate in a quality manner consistent with YMCA guidelines. The Health and Wellness Director acts as a liaison and advocate for Activate America and understands the Health Seeker target market while putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Educational Background: 
College Degree in exercise science/physiology or related field preferred and/or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 2 year of experience in supervising staff in the health and wellness industry.
  • Minimum 2 year of experience developing exercise prescriptions/exercise programming and/or group exercise instruction

Required Certifications

Special skills, Licenses, Certifications or Equipment:

  • Currently personal trainer and/or group exercise certified with a national organization that tests both theoretical knowledge and performance, such as A.C.E., A.C.S.M., and N.S.C.A.
  • Currently certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (C.P.R.), A.E.D. and First Aid. *
  • Complete YMCA New Employee Orientation. *
  • Complete Tortal Courses. *
  • Complete YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles. **
  • Mission, Art and Science Supervision – (M.A.S.S.) **
  • Complete Listen First. **
  • Complete YMCA Foundations of YMCA Group Exercise Instructor. ***
  • Foundations of YMCA Strength and Conditioning Certification. ***
  • Personal Fitness Program Director ***
  • Additional YMCA Instructor Certification. ****
  • Trainer level in at least one YMCA Health and Fitness Instructor Course. **

Compensation/Benefits: 

$30,000.00 - $36,968.00
