The Seasonal Field Technician performs and participates in the operation of nature preserves, maintenance and management.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Seasonal Summer Field Technician will do summer invasive species management at Indian Boundary Prairies and at nearby partner agency preserves. S/he will maintain tools and equipment, physically manage species, and backpack foliar spray invasive species with herbicide, and maintain preserve areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations for long periods of time in isolated settings, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.               
  • Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain.              
  • May interact with visitors    
Educational Background: 
High school diploma or GED, and/or 6 months of related experience             
Skills/Experience: 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Must have or be able to obtain IL Pesticide Operators License

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross cultural experience appreciated.
  • Ability to follow instructions from colleagues.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain a driver’s license, and to maintain a good driving record.
  • Some familiarity with natural areas and native and exotic plant species
  • Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. Brush mower, weed-whacker, etc.).
