The Marion Family YMCA is looking for a proven YMCA leader who is ready for the next challenge. The person we hire will lead our Aquatics Department and also provide leadership to other aspects of our operations, depending on the incumbents experience and skill set. This is a new position created to attract an aquatics professional who wants to make a leap in his / her career. The Marion Family YMCA is an independent association located in the center of Ohio. We are looking for someone with the leadership skills to develop a premier aquatic environment including meeting high standards in safety, building an instructional swim program, and continuing excellence in competitive swimming. The incumbent will also have a leadership impact on other areas of our Y, which may include youth and family programs, health and wellness, and membership engagement.

The Marion Family YMCA W. Keith Davis Natatorium has an 8 lane competitive pool, warm water therapy pool and whirlpool spa. Current aquatic programs include a comprehensive instructional swimming lesson program utilizing the new Y curriculum, a competitive swim team with approximately 20 swimmers, lifeguard training and specialty programs. In addition to aquatics, we have a full facility YMCA with an indoor track, double gymnasium, aerobic studios, wellness center, outdoor track, outdoor sport fields, and a community garden. Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Create and uphold an aquatics department with high standards of safety, meeting all YUSA recommendations in an executed aquatic safety plan.
  • Create and uphold an aquatics department that provides excellent swimming lessons for all ages demonstrated by participant evaluations and program growth.
  • Create and uphold a competitive swimming program that nurtures the potential of youth creating achievement, belonging and superior skills among swimmers as demonstrated by participant evaluations and program growth.
  • Provide leadership to other areas of the operation based on incumbant's specific skills and experience.
  • Assist leadership team in creating strong relationships with members, guests, participants, and donors as reflected in membership retention, donor retention and program participation.
Educational Background: 
Position requires a person has a bachelor's degree; at least three years of experience managing an aquatics department; and proven leadership skills in and outside of aquatics.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Incumbent must hold current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification including current CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid; or have held in the past and are able to recertify within 60 days of accepting position.
  • Preferred additional certifications prior to hire include YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (new material), YMCA Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor, CPR for Professional Rescuer Instructor, First Aid Instructor, Oxygen Administration Instructor and Certified Pool Operator (or YMCA POOL). Additional preferred skills include coaching competitive swimming, budget development and management, highly organized, working with groups, an understanding of the YMCA mission and ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Desirable attributes include a passion for swimming and developing young swimmers, commitment to swimmers of all backgrounds and abilities, an understanding of sound risk management practices, and an ambition to create excellence.
  • Physical Requirements: Incumbent must be able to move freely and quickly throughout the YMCA facility; move easily across a variety of indoor and outdoor surfaces; demonstrate ability to meet all prerequisites for YMCA Lifeguarding; perform all skills of a swim instructor; watch and listen to the activities of swimmers; specific vision abilities required include distance vision and depth perception; communicate effectively with people; use a computer with a keyboard; bend and lift; and lift up to 50 pounds.

Required Certifications

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $40,000.00 - $48,000.00
