Under the general direction of the Associate Executive Director of the South Mountain branch, the Director of Youth and Wellness will be responsible for developing, leading, organizing and implementing high quality youth sports programs including, but not limited to, introductory sports classes serving pre-k ages, school age, basketball clinics, teams, and leagues.  The Director of Youth and Wellness will oversee our limited adult group exercise offerings and support branch efforts to increase adult/senior program offerings. The Director of Youth and Wellness will also have direct summer camp responsibility.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Lead and supervise program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Plan and coordinate: youth sports, adult sports, travel basketball, weekend tournaments, Healthy Kids Day, summer camp, and other events as required.  
  • Supervise a school year staff of 5+, volunteers of 10+, and a summer staff of 30+. All staff are part time.
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct staff team and volunteers as needed. Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Establish new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Organize and schedule program registrations for each programmatic session.
  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
  • Assist in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Participate in Program Committee meetings as needed.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation 
    in program.
  • Coordinate schedules of all shared spaces to ensure maximized space usage.
  • Schedule all basketball programs including, but not limited to leagues, travel team, summer Baird Court in South Orange, and more.
  • Identify opportunities to grow youth sports programming.
  • Identify ways to enhance Adult Wellness programs.
  • Organize and conduct trainings and meetings as needed.
  • Monitor and purchase necessary equipment for programs.
  • Organize and oversee program activities and events.
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers from the local community.
  • Participates in community events as needed.
  • Be the lead on 1-2 Community events per year- event TBD.
Educational Background: 
High School Diploma; Bachelors degree in Education, Human Services, Social Services, Recreation, or Business or equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of five years related experience with managing multiple program activities, program development & marketing, and fiscal management
  • Minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience.
  • Ability to manage the direction of multi-site programs through supervision of staff, public relations, program development and fund-raising.
  • Excellent financial skills including budget preparation and project management.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of quality program development and coordination of activities.
  • Ability to establish, build and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Completion of YMCA Team Leader certification within 3 years.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Must have flexible schedule to participate in activities and events on weekends.
Compensation/Benefits: 

We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package. Additional compensation includes 12% retirement upon eligibility, 403b plan, generous PTO plan, professional development opportunities and complimentary use of YMCA facilities.

Salary: $49,695.00 - $55,000.00
