The Media and Public Relations Manager will promote the work of The Nature Conservancy in Wisconsin through earned media, social media, and public relations strategies. The goal of these strategies is to deepen recognition among external audiences about the value of nature to people’s lives as well as engage these audiences in taking action to protect nature. This position is based in the Madison office. Salary range for the position starts at $55,000 and is dependent on experience.
The Media and Public Relations Manager assists the Director of Marketing and Communications with managing and implementing marketing projects and initiatives within the framework of the chapter’s marketing, annual, and strategic plans.
The Media and Public Relations Manager works with various constituents such as chapter staff, volunteer leaders, and partners; TNC North America marketing staff; and vendors and consultants to manage and implement projects. They may work with budgets to minimize expenses, maximize revenue, and meet quality control standards. They may track and analyze program results, report findings, and work with the Director of Marketing and Communications to implement strategic recommendations.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Helps develop and implement an annual media relations strategy to promote TNC’s strategic priorities in Wisconsin. This will involve pitching compelling stories about TNC’s work to various print and digital media sources.
- Manages and produces content for TNC’s social media accounts and uses analytics to measure success and inform approach.
- Helps develop and implement an annual public relations strategy focused on building relationships with key companies/organizations/other stakeholders that positions TNC as a trusted practitioner, partner, and convener on key conservation issues.
- Writes compelling stories for the TNC website, member newsletter, TNC magazine inserts, and other publications as assigned.
- Organizes, manages, and coordinates diverse projects and activities with many variables.
- Coordinates the work of peers on departmental project teams. May supervise volunteers, interns, or temporary staff.
- Works within a budget to complete a project.
- Duties are performed under general supervision and established guidelines.
- Opportunity to act independently on assigned tasks and projects. May have full opportunity to direct individual projects.
- Knowledge and experience with managing social media channels, including Facebook.
- Experience successfully pitching and placing earned media stories.
- Experience writing, editing, and proofreading.
- Experience organizing and coordinating multiple projects.
