Conservation Fellow: Visual Storytelling

The Visual Storytelling Fellow will create videos and other visual promotional materials to better tell The Nature Conservancy’s story and engage new audiences. This is a one-year fellowship with an anticipated start date of May 2018 that is open to highly motivated recent graduates from a college or graduate program. The position will be located in the Conservancy’s Madison, Wisconsin office in the Marketing/Communications department. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Visual Storytelling Fellow will work closely with Conservancy staff to create short, compelling videos and other visual materials for use in communications, outreach, and fundraising. The Fellow will be responsible for producing such videos and taking them from initial concept to shooting, editing, and finishing. Additional responsibilities may include recruiting volunteer photographers, organizing photo shoots, archiving Conservancy photos, and training staff to shoot and edit short videos. The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate with strong video production, photography, and storytelling skills. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Work with Conservancy staff to plan video projects and manage a timeline.
  • Coordinate and produce a series of video projects and visual communication materials, working within a budget. 
  • Duties are performed under general supervision and established guidelines, with the opportunity for some independent work.
  • Some travel within Wisconsin to on-location shoots is expected for this position.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience, or equivalent combination.
Skills/Experience: 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Degree completed within the last 18 months. 
  • Experience with video production.
  • Experience or training in relevant technology such as video cameras and software and Adobe PhotoShop.
  • Experience acting independently to achieve goals and objectives. 
  • Valid driver’s license.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Training and expertise in video production; preferably able to share examples of short promotional videos.
  • An eye for photography, including people and emotional impact.
  • Social media knowledge and experience. 
  • Comfort level with communications and presentation.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Multi-lingual skills appreciated.
  • Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
