The YMCA of Metro North has a long history of providing many communities throughout the Northern suburbs of Boston with outstanding programs and services for youth, adults and families. Serving the communities of Lynn, Peabody, Saugus, Melrose, Nahant, Revere, Lynnfield and Stoneham, the YMCA of Metro North seeks an experienced Senior YMCA Executive Director that will lead our Lynn Massachusetts YMCA into the next phase of growth and prominence, to meet the cause and mission of the YMCA.  

Under the direction and in consultation with the Chief Operating Officer, the Branch Executive Director is responsible for all branch decision making and operations including driving the membership, and program/membership services of the Branch, Y Academy STEAM advancement, the financial development strategy, business operations, facility management, human resources, and employee development, all in accordance with the policies, by-laws and constitution of the Metro North YMCA.  This position reports to and is accountable to the Chief Operations Officer.    

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provides solutions for Branch specific and/or Association-wide challenges.
    • Financial Budget
    • Program enrollment- Aquatics, Sports, Youth Enrichment, Child Care, Out of School Time, Health & Wellness and Active Older Adults.
    • Membership Sales & Retention
    • Support Annual Campaign efforts
  • Board & Financial Development- Drive all fund raising and financial development initiatives in the community.
  • Directs the Annual Campaign to fund the mission related work of the branch.
  • Community engagement- Enhance the Y’s participation in the community and recruit committed volunteers. Recruits, maintains and engages a productive Board of Advisors.  
  • Staff Development- Direct responsibility and supervision for a branch staff team. Direct reports include; Director of Operations, Program Directors, and Business Operations.
  • Trend identification and implications for the branch and related operating units:
    • Membership
    • Youth Development Programs
    • External environment changes
    • Service area demographics
  • Creates an annual budget and executes to the plan
  • Works with branch staff on a timely basis to correct financial deficiencies.
  • Provide leadership and insight with Education District goals and objectives.
  • Project support for the Chief Operations Officer.

Outcomes and position expectations:

  • Branch staff are achieving (at minimum) metric targets and producing meaningful qualitative results.
  • Operating models are in place and consistently implemented for:
    • Healthy Living & Fitness
    • Aquatics
    • Membership Sales & Retention
    • Y Academy – Early Learning
    • Y Academy – Out of School Time
    • Education District LAB Implementation
  • Timely action planning is in place (with effective end-results) for operating units and/or program areas that have performance concerns.
  • Complete knowledge of operating details of programs and branch operations.
  • Annual Campaign targets are accomplished.
  • A high functioning Board of Advisors that will support local fundraising efforts.
  • Ensure operating unit and branch staff are reaching their true potential.
  • Succession Planning- Identification of “Rising Stars”.
Educational Background: 
Ten – fifteen years of management and leadership BS/BA Four-year college degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Certified Organizational Leader with a minimum of eight years professional YMCA experience preferred.
  • A proven track record of exemplary operations results.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred.    

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES/KNOW HOW:

  • Superior Communication skills- both written and verbal.  
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the nature of the YMCA movement, volunteers and staff in the accomplishments of the YMCA goals, objectives and mission in the community.
  • Possess a concern for detail and accuracy and can delegate responsibility.
  • Must be highly motivated and possess a positive attitude towards the YMCA, character development and our mission.
  • Proven track record of identifying, cultivating and growing partnerships and collaborations. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Evening and/or early morning, and/or weekend hours required periodically.
  • The branch is open to 120 hours per week.  A flexible work schedule may be necessary.  Represent the Y at events on night and weekends can be a regular occurrence. 
  • Occasional travel required.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $110,000.00 - $135,000.00
