Under the general guidance of the Branch Director, the Childcare Director of the Southside Virginia Family Y will work with the Childcare and Youth departments to develop, plan and implement new and existing programs, procedures and methods to achieve the YMCA strategic goals and strengthen membership engagement, ensuring these programs are aligned with the Y’s cause, operate within a culture of safety and meet the needs of the community.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.
  • Manage the YMCA Childcare and Youth Departments, providing direct supervision to the childcare staff team to develop a strong mission-based culture within the Y staff.
  • Work closely with the Branch Director and CEO to budget and manage childcare and youth finances.
  • Hire, train and evaluate staff in the Childcare and Youth Department through on-site visits to Childcare programs, one-on-one meetings and employee and member feedback.
  • Evaluate current programming through statistics and participant feedback; develop and implement new programming consistent with the Y mission.
  • Hold regularly scheduled agenda-based meetings with all staff in Childcare and Youth Departments to collaborate and provide guidance in developing an environment and programs consistent with the Y mission that serve the needs of the Greater Farmville community.
  • Review time cards each pay period and ensure clock in and out procedures are being followed.
  • Provide up-to-date Childcare programming, schedules and trainings
  • Work in collaboration with the Branch Director, COO and Marketing Department, abiding by brand standards, to have active and current promotional and social media content reflecting programs, services and special events.
  • Maintain a culture of safety in all aspects of department and organizational operations through policies, procedures, systems and training.
  • Develop long-term goals for the Childcare Department and provide steps and resources to reach those goals.
  • Participate in promoting YMCA membership through assisting in the recruiting and retaining of members.
  • Responsible for the development and recruitment of volunteers for the Annual Campaign – leading the Childcare Department team of volunteers.
  • Prepare and administer assigned annual budget, making revisions as necessary to meet or exceed budget guidelines.
  • Coordinate personnel certifications; assuring the current certification of staff each year (Quarterly reports indicating childcare certifications).
  • Conduct monthly in-service training for all childcare.
  • Maintain relationships with members and program participants through verbal and written communications and strive to encourage the growth of membership participation.
  • Understand and relate the purpose and goals of the YMCA to staff and program participants.
  • Assume other related duties deemed necessary by the Branch Director.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor Degree in related field.  Must have child related classes to meet the VA Standard of Licensing.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three years experience in a related field with comparable program growth.
  • Demonstrated experience in recruiting, hiring, training and development of volunteers and staff.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively work/interact with diverse populations.
  • Computer literate,  Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook and database mangement.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $31,000.00 - $34,000.00
