The Y is a cause-driven organization that is for youth development, for healthy living and for social responsibility. Consistent with the mission, vision and values of the YMCA of Greater Louisville, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, the Sports and Camp Director functions as an integral part of the branch leadership team. Under the leadership of the Senior Program Director, the Sports and Camp Director will provide hands on leadership to the Youth Sports and Summer Day Camp programs of the Northeast Family YMCA, and play an active role in the overall operations of the branch including Annual Giving and Membership Sales/Retention.

This position requires an individual with an enthusiastic personality who can develop harmonious relationships with staff, members, volunteers, and community leaders. He/she must present a professional image and have outstanding leadership, interpersonal and staff development skills. He/she must be highly organized, technically competent with computers and typical office software and have the ability to learn the software tools necessary for this position. They must demonstrate a proven ability to multitask and handle large numbers of people in a service capacity while effectively supporting and communicating the YMCA character values and mission. A background in sports/ physical education is preferred but not required.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
  • Effectively lead Youth Sports department and grow the programs in volume, variety and produce exemplary satisfaction scores.
  • Hire, train, supervise and lead both a Program Director and Sports staff to produce outstanding results in program enrollment, attendance and quality.
  • Develops an effective and mission-driven team focused on youth development.
  • Prepares and administers annual operating budget.
  • Assumes ownership of all youth sports programming, utilizing first-hand observations to ensure safety, organization, cleanliness and image.
  • Recruit and train volunteer coaches for all sports teams with an emphasis on retaining the best coaches from season to season.
  • Evaluates and monitors program quality and impact.  Monitors program delivery through regular observations.
  • Trains and develops over 60 summer camp staff and leads branch-training to ensure all counselors and directors are aware of expectations.
  • Leads group songs, games and crafts, and engages campers in learning activities.
  • Write lesson plans, and implement educational activities consistent with the weekly themes.
  • Actively seeks out and engages in community/organization collaborations.
  • Develops, maintains and strengthens relationships with parents, staff and key community agencies. 
  • Establishes and maintains good communications with parents, staff and branch leadership team.
  • Ensures athletic fields are safe and game ready; cut, striped trimmed etc.
  • Cross promotes membership and youth sports programming.
  • Spreads awareness of Annual Giving Campaign efforts and supports volunteers in their fundraising efforts.
  • Completes required abuse risk management training. Adheres to policies and procedures related to appropriate boundaries with children.  Monitors building, staff and members and reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations to supervisor.   Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements to authorities. 
    • Manage a budget of $380,000 per year; serving 2,000+ unique participants
    • Supervision of 60+ part-time staff and 100+ volunteer coaches
    • Maintain all records related to the certifications and general operations
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum four years proven experience working with children with two in a supervisory capacity
Compensation/Benefits: 

STARTING SALARY:  $40,000 + Based on Experience
