Consistent with the mission, vision and values of the YMCA of Greater Louisville, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, the Program Director functions as an integral part of the branch leadership team. Under the leadership of the Associate Executive Director, the Senior Program Director will provide hands on leadership to the YouthSports and Day Camp programs of the Northeast Family YMCA, and play an active role in the overall operations of the branch including Annual Giving and Membership Sales/Retention.

This position requires an individual with an enthusiastic personality who can develop harmonious relationships with staff, members, volunteers, and community leaders.  He/she must present a professional image and have outstanding leadership, interpersonal and staff development skills.  He/she must be highly organized, technically competent with computers and typical office software and have the ability to learn the software tools necessary for this position.  They must demonstrate a proven ability to multitask and handle large numbers of people in a service capacity while effectively supporting and communicating the YMCA character, values and mission. A background in sports/ physical education is preferred but not required.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
  •  Develop and implement innovative programs that effectively serve the children and families of a diverse community and membership base.
  • Effectively leadYouth Sports department and 3 Summer Day Camps to grow the programs in volume, variety and produce exemplary satisfaction scores.
  • Hire, train, supervise and lead both an Exempt Director and Program Coordinator to produce outstanding results in program enrollment, attendance and quality.
  • Recruit and train volunteer coaches for all sports teams with an emphasis on retaining the best coaches from season to season.
  • Train and develop over 80 Summer Camp staff and lead branch-training to ensure all counselors and directors are aware of expectations.
  • Assume ownership of all youth sports and Day Camp programming, utilizing first-hand observations to ensure safety, organization, cleanliness and image.
  • Ongoing relationship building to increase program member retention, member involvement and member connectedness.
  • Assist in community Annual Campaign leadership including volunteer recruitment, training, development, and securing annual gifts.
  • Maintain appropriate records related to equipment, staff, and members as required by the branch and Association.
  • Prepare and manage annual operating budget.
  • Develop, produce and disseminate appropriate information in order to promote YMCA programs and services
  •  to the public and to current members.
  • Represent the Northeast Family branch and YMCA as an organization at various meetings related to the position.
  • Completes required abuse risk management training. Adheres to policies and procedures related to appropriate boundaries with children.  Monitors building, staff and members and reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations to supervisor.   Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements to authorities.  
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Commitment to YMCA Mission, Philosophy, and character development
  • Minimum two years proven experience working with children, two in a supervisory capacity
  • 21 years of age
  • Prior program or administrative experience preferred
  • Must be able to pass all pre-employment screening including state and national background checks and multi-panel drug screen
Compensation/Benefits: 

STARTING SALARY:$44,000+ commensurate with experience
