The Southwest Branch of the YMCA of Greater Louisville is a 42,000 square feet facility, with a diverse membership population.  We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, Program Director that will be responsible for established Sports and Day Camp and the addition and growth of new youth programs.  The Program Director oversees the management of programs, facilities, volunteer and staff development and financial development.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Supervise part-time staff of approximately 5-15 sports staff and 12-20 camp staff
  • Participate in growth of annual campaign, in excess of $75,000 annually
  • Budget responsibility of $175,000+
  • Primary responsible for maintenance of sports and camp facilities
  • Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
  • Develop and implement innovative programs that effectively serve the children and families of a diverse community and membership base.
  • Effectively lead Youth Sports department and Summer Camp and grow the programs in volume, variety and produce exemplary satisfaction scores.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise and lead both Sports and the Summer Day Camp staff to produce outstanding results in program attendance and quality.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with members, within the community and among fellow staff.
  • Recruit and train volunteer coaches for all sports teams with an emphasis on retaining the best coaches from season to season.
  • Ongoing relationship building to increase program member retention, member involvement and member connectedness.
  • Assist in community Annual Giving campaign leadership including volunteer recruitment, training,
  • development and securing annual gifts.
  • Maintain appropriate records related to equipment, staff, and members as required by the branch and Association.
  • Development and successfully manage assigned portions of the branch budget; Day Camp budget of $124,000 and Sports budget of $51,000
  • Develops, produces and disseminates appropriate information in order to promote YMCA programs and services to the public and to current members.
  • Represents the SW Branch and YMCA as an organization at various meetings related to the position.
  • Assist in the recruitment, retention and maintaining a positive environment for YMCA members.
  • Administers all aspects of the position consistent with the Y Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and
  • Responsibility and communicates our image using the Y’s Voice of Genuine, Nurturing, Hopeful, Welcoming, and Determined.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate work experience in aquatics and/or recreation preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  •  Experience working with children and adults
  • Working knowledge of Day camp and various sports and rules; baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, etc
  • Experience supervising and training young people and adults
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to develop staff
  • Ability to communicate through multiple generations and formats
  • Ability to generate positive revenue through programming
  • Experience in setting up/ maintaining sports and camp facilities
  • Experience managing a budget preferred
